‘Tab’ App is the Easiest Way to Split the Bill

Tab App

Reach for ‘Tab’ the next time you need to split the bill. Dining out with friends and acquaintances is loads of fun, but there’s that 15-minute lull at the end where everyone’s just poring over the receipt so they can pay their share of the bill.

The Tab app makes the entire process quicker, easier, and less of a hassle. When the bill arrives, just fire Tab up and take a picture of the receipt. Pass the phone around so people can claim which items they ordered. Taxes and tips are divided among everyone, so each person can see how much they have to cough up before they pass the phone off to the next person.

Tab can be downloaded from iTunes and Google Play.

Groove to Your DNA-Inspired Theme Song

DNA Song

Want a song that you can truly call your own? Then create one with IDNAtity. It’s an app that lets you create your own theme song of sorts, even though you know close to nothing about writing or composing music.

IDNAtity mixes a bit of science with a lot of art. It essentially asks for information about your genetic makeup by asking you to upload a photo of yourself and answer questions about your appearance, like your hair color and eye color. The app also asks if you have dimples and if you can roll your tongue, because these details are, apparently, crucial in determining your genetic make-up..not.

Used the BreakupText App to Break Up? Then Get the MakeupText App to Get Back Together

makeupapp

So you broke up with your other half on a whim, and now you want to get back together.

If you were a jerk and went through with your breakup with the use of BreakupText, here’s a bit of good news for you: an anti-breakup app exists and it’s aptly called the MakeupText app. Both apps are developed by the same people. In this case, the MakeupText app lets you, the user, spew apologies and sweet nothings with the goal of trying to get your ex-sweetheart back.

The only problem is.. will he (or she) fall for it? I mean, you did just do the breakup through text, of all things.Continue Reading

Eight-Year-Old Spends $6,000 on In-App Purchases–Now See Why You Should Keep Your Phone Away From Kids?

Girl Spends 6K on Apple Apps

There are many reasons why you shouldn’t leave a kid alone with your phone. For one, they might delete messages or important emails without your knowledge. That could spell a lot of trouble for you, especially if they have to do with work. Another reason is that they often tap buttons they shouldn’t and end up making purchases that they haven’t cleared with you. This has happened to so many people all over the world, and yet parents still leave their kids with their devices.

Another case is that of Lee Neale and his eight-year-old daughter, who spend over £4,000 (about $6,000) on in-app purchases. Apparently, his daughter had seen him key in his password to purchase stuff and memorized it, keying it in later on when she made her own purchases.

Lee pleaded with Apple to cancel the purchases, but the former didn’t relent at first, and understandably so. It was only when Lee went to the media with his story that Apple granted him a refund. Continue Reading

Refresh Tells You About Who You’re About to Meet So You Can Skip the Small Talk

Refresh iOS App

The first meeting is almost always awkward. There’s only so much you can say about the weather and the traffic, and the pressure that comes with wanting to make a good first impression clearly won’t do anything for your conversational skills. What you need is information, even just the basics, about the person you’re about to meet.

If you have the luxury of time, then you could do a search and Google to browse his or her social media profiles. But if you’re running on a tight schedule, the best you can do is pull up a quick 30-second briefing of whoever you’re meeting using Refresh.

Want a Cute Girl to Watch You 24/7? There’s An App For That

Watching Cute Girl App

You know that feeling you just get when someone’s staring at you? If you care to look around, then you’ll probably spot someone who actually is. I don’t like being stared at because it makes me feel self-conscious. But if you don’t mind having multiple pairs of eyes trained on you and happen to actually like being stared at, then I know the perfect app for you: Watching Cute Girl.

It’s basically an interactive app featuring a cute girl who will watch you (whenever you want her to) and make appropriate and random comments here and there. Eating alone? Watching TV all by your lonesome? Pulling all-nighter and feeling a bit lonely? This cute girl will be your constant companion and all you have to do to ‘call’ her is tap your screen and she’ll be there in an instant.

Hit the break for an ad featuring this quirky and sort-of weird app.

Write Your Own ‘Shatoetry’ and ‘Shatisms’ with William Shatner’s New iOS App

Shatner App

How would you like to literally put words into William Shatner’s mouth? Now’s your chance with his all-new app called Shatoetry. So he won’t be saying what you want him to say out loud to your face, but with this app, you can make him say anything. Just don’t make it too obscene or racy.

Known primarily for playing Captain Kirk on Star Trek, William Shatner is well-versed in the many languages of technology. This is, however, his first time at dipping right into it with the release of his app. Re-arrange the words on-screen to form delightful phrases and sweet rhymes that Shatner will read aloud himself, since each word has been pre-recorded. Hit the break to check out a clip where Shatner unveils his app excitedly to a hopefully excited audience!

Apple Hatin’: Man Shoots iPhone With 9mm Handgun, Then Torches It

By David Ponce

A lot of people are pissed at Apple right now. This guy is shoot-it-with-a-gun-and-burn-it mad. Don’t watch the video if you loves them Apple. Oh, who am I kidding, this stuff is fun to watch!

If you’re unaware of this by now, there’s a growing anti-Apple sentiment going around the interwebs. It has a lot to do with their dictatorial and somewhat monopolistic practices in their running of the App Store. Apple decides which apps get in by a process that is not transparent, not consistent, not logical and often anti-competitive. The latest uproar is over their refusal of Google Voice, an app that could have fundamentally changed the way you use your multiple phone lines. The FCC is looking into it and if there’s any good in this world, things may get straightened out without the need for more iPhone-busting bullets.

RedLaser App Turns Your iPhone Into A Barcode Scanner

RedLaser (Image courtesy Occipital)
By Andrew Liszewski

The name RedLaser might be a bit misleading since the app actually uses the iPhone’s camera instead of lasers like at a checkout, but the functionality is basically the same. You just snap a photo of any barcode from the appropriate distance (there’s a handy on-screen guide) and the application will automatically convert it to product info that can be used to search prices online, or just store the item in a shopping list for later reference. I’ve been using an app called SnapTell which provides similar functionality, but since it uses image recognition of the actual product (like the cover of a book or a DVD) the results aren’t always perfect. And I suspect that scanning barcodes instead would prove far more successful.

RedLaser is available on the App Store right now for just $1.99.
