Over the last couple of years, we’ve been bringing your attention to a good number of deals on the gadgets you love.  We know the feeling: here’s this awesome item you want to buy, no, you need to buy… but if only it wasn’t that expensive.  Well, one of the most obvious places to find items at a discount is eBay; this much we think you already knew.  What you might not have known is that eBay has a special section where they highlight some of the best ones they have, and it’s called eBay Deals.  That section is relatively general and populated with all kinds of stuff, so if you’re looking for more tech specific deals, you can head on over to eBay Tech Deals. Some examples of what you’ll find there include 25% off on an Apple iPad Air 2 9.7″ with Retina Display, down to $49 from its usual $599! Or the Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT GPS Navigation Assistant for $99, down from its usual $189.

The company is making an effort to raise awareness that there’s more going on in their platform than simple auctions.  For example, I’ve been given the opportunity to write a Buying Guide.  I chose to do it about the Top 4 Gadgets To Help You Train Your Dog.  It’s a list of items you might want to consider having if you’ve embarked on the potentially difficult road to having a properly trained puppy.

So that’s it, you should take a few minutes and explore the other things eBay has to offer, like great deals and buying guides.  It’s all just a few clicks away.

The Obvious Choice For Standing Out Is A Fresh Pair of PF Flyers

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of PF Flyers for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Long time readers of OhGizmo! will know that we try to set ourselves apart from the myriad other blogs out there by focusing on content that hasn’t already been rehashed tons of times elsewhere.  This means we’ll often eschew mainstream consumer electronics and talk about obscure items of marginal usefulness.  We do this because, well, it’s a lot more interesting to us, and we always hope you’ll feel the same.  And it’s also because at heart we like to stand out; we don’t want to follow the crowd. So when I was contacted by PF Flyers and asked to take a look at their shoes, I was intrigued.  Here is a brand with a venerable history, having been founded in 1937, and currently sitting under the New Balance umbrella. But it’s also a brand that not too many people have heard of, with an interesting array of styles to choose from. Their shoes are known for their comfort, the Posture Foundation insole, and they certainly display a keen sense of style.  I was graciously given a chance to get one of four pairs.

So, I decided to try out the Center-Hi Vintage model in black.  These are high top sneakers made out of a hearty canvas material, with a solid rubber toecap and bumper, and strong vertical ribbing.  The sole is white and thick, and contrasts strongly with the matte black of the shoe’s body.  I really liked them because of the old school look, and the confident allure of the front part of the shoe.  I don’t like shoes that are too pointy, and considering current pant styles favour skinnier cuts, I often feel like I’m wearing clown shoes if my footwear appears to be too long and thin.  The Center-Hi Vintage are rounder and slightly wider, which gives them a heavy and imposing stance. The company logo on the side further reinforces that old-school 60’s vibe that attracted me to them in the first place, and I feel like they just look good.

The real magic, however, begins the minute you put them on.  The Posture Foundation insole is a fantastic addition to these sneakers.  Your foot feels embraced and hugged, and your every step is cushioned.  It’s really hard to convey in words just how comfortable they are, so you’ll just have to take my word for it: they’re very comfortable. The sole isn’t too thin, so your foot is insulated from little irregularities in the ground, like tiny pebbles.  The rubber is super grippy, and I feel like I can bounce around in these all day.  The fit is just right; my feet aren’t wide or narrow, so there was absolutely no fitment issues.  That’s not to say they wouldn’t be able to accommodate differently shaped feet, considering the soft canvas that makes up the body.  When laced properly, you feel snug and secure, and that’s a great thing from what’s arguably the most important garment you wear.

You guys should consider visiting the PF Flyers website and picking a style that suits you best.  It’s a great way to stand out from the crowd and get noticed. They’re priced just right, and their styles are fresh and classy.  I know I’ll be wearing mine until they basically disintegrate, which could take a while considering the superior quality.

The Only Thing That’s Better Than Receiving This Holiday Season, Is Giving

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Capital One for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Last time I brought up CapitalOne’s #WishForOthers campaign, I tried to make a case for why my lifelong friend JS was a good candidate for receiving my #WishForOthers this Holiday season. Wish For OthersThe truth of the matter is, CapitalOne wants to bring awareness to the simple fact that as much fun as it is to receive stuff during this time of year, nothing can replace the warm and fuzzies you get when you give something to some other deserving soul instead.  That’s why they’ve launched the Wish For Others campaign; it’s an opportunity for readers to share their wish for someone else, and where they stand a chance of having these wishes fulfilled.

The fact is we all have someone in our lives that can either benefit from having you give them something, or even from just learning about the spirit of giving.  Children look up to their parents for behavioral cues, and everything they learn in infancy they will carry with them into adulthood.  One way to foster this spirit is to invite your kids to make lists of what they’d like their siblings to receive, rather than drawing up a Santa’s Letter asking for stuff for themselves.  If you don’t have kids, you can still find worthy candidates in your life if you look hard enough: what about a member of the armed forces?  A struggling small business owner who could use a little care and compassion? That neighbor who was nice enough to lend you his lawnmower when yours broke down?

Whatever it is, we encourage you to enter the campaign and share your wish for others, this Holiday season; they just might come true! You can do so by tagging @CapitalOne on Twitter, or by visiting their Facebook page or Wish For Others website.

Tweet a Coke to Show Loved Ones You Care

Tweet a Coke

Sometimes, all a person needs is an ice-cold bottle of Coca-Cola. You don’t have to be close by to hand them their Coke, because all you’ll need is Twitter. The beverage company’s marketing team has upped their social media interactivity by allowing users to send friends, loved ones, and random strangers a bottle of coke…straight from Twitter!

To get started, users will have to authenticate their account and enter their credit card information. When they’re ready to send some Coke, all they have to do is tweet a link to their intended recipient. When opened, this link lets the receiver redeem their bottle of coke from participating Regal Cinemas locations. Pretty neat, huh?

‘Stressed’ Tea Bags Transform and ‘Relax’ in Hot Water

Transforming Tea Bags

Different strokes for different folks. That’s true in so many ways, and especially true in how people deal with stress and cope with stressful life events. Some people go out for a run, others shop, some sleep, while others fix a cup of tea and find themselves relaxing more and more with every sip.

For the latter group, ad agency M&C Saatchi’s campaign for tea maker BOH makes complete sense. They rolled out an array of tea bags in unusual shapes and designs. The coolest part is when the bags are submerged in hot water, as they transform from a symbol that depicts stress to one that exudes calmness and nothing but good vibes.

Need a Roommate? Create a Poster and See Your Ad Go Viral

Roomate Mock Poster

Awesome roommates are hard to come by. Lauren Fahey recently moved to San Francisco and came upon that realization after apartment hunting for a while. With a lot of other “competitors” on the side, Lauren decided that the only way she was ever going to find a decent place to live in was to sell herself–as being one of the best roommates you could ever have.

Lauren then created a movie poster-like ad which featured testimonials about Lauren as a roommate from previous roommates. The ad’s backdrop featured Lauren with a friend (who could be you, if you’re looking for a roommate!) and an ironic naked man at the back, for no particular reason. She explains: “Apartment and roommate hunting was getting so tedious. It’s ridiculously competitive and I had to find a way to set myself apart.”

Lauren’s methods worked, since she now has herself a roommate. If you’re looking for one yourself, then take a cue from Lauren and see if it works for you, too.

What the French Fry: Burger King Gives Free ‘Wi-Fry’ to Promote New ‘Satisfries’

WTFF Burger King

Burger King is leaving giant crinkle fries all over New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago in a grand attempt to promote their new reduced-fat fries called “Satisfries.” The pun doesn’t end there. They extend it to the actual promotional campaign, which consisted of leaving the aforementioned giant fries in random places and giving people free Wi-Fry.

They’ve dubbed their campaign #WTFF, which stands for What the French Fry.

Vending Machine Doles Out Free Beer to Lazy Bystanders

Lazy Beer Vending Machine

Getting free beer doesn’t get any easier than this. All you have to do is stand in front of this vending machine and do nothing for three minutes. It’s that easy. This is the latest in a series of advertising stunts done by various companies using a vending machine that doles out free goods in exchange for a random or sometimes unusual action by the person.

The one set up by beer company Amstel is called the Amstel Pause and it definitely stays true to its name. Anybody who wants a cold one only has to press a button to start the timer and stand on the designated spot in front of the Pause. Once the three minutes is up, the machine dispenses a can of booze.

Fat-Burning Breathalyzer Lets You Know If Your Diet’s Working or Not

Fat-Burning Breathalyzer

This isn’t your typical breathalyzer in every sense of the word. It doesn’t measure the amount of alcohol in your breath; rather, it measures how much acetone is in it instead. But what does acetone have to do with diets? You might be aware that acetone is a compound found in most nail polish removers, but did you know that your body produces it, too?

Acetone is produced when fatty acids are broken down in your body. Break down enough fat and eventually this compound will find its way into your breath, so when you blow onto the fat-burning breathalyzer, you’ll know if you’re doing enough to shed off those extra pounds or not.
