Bolt Electric Skateboard Is World’s Smallest

bolt-1

There are gaps in our transportation infrastructure, for trips that are too far away to walk comfortably, but too close to take the bus or car. For these instances, a device like the Bolt, the World’s Smallest Electric Skateboard, is awesome. Measuring only 23.5-inches long and 10-inches wide, and weighing in at a very reasonable 8.8lbs, the Bolt is extremely portable. But when it’s on the road, it’s able to carry a rider up to 6.5 miles on a charge, at up to 10mph, with a 1 hour recharge time. That’s just enough for a daily commute to school, or to get some groceries at that convenience store that’s just a couple of blocks too far for you to feel like actually walking to it. The battery can also be used to recharge your electronics, and can even be controlled remotely since it does connect to your smartphone. Control is achieved through a handheld remote, and a powerful 2,000 Watt motor should be able to handle riders of most sizes. To get your own you’ll have to pre-order it for $599. It was successfully funded on Indiegogo, but deliveries aren’t slated to start until October of this year.

The Artican Is The Koozie Reinvented

Arctican

Summer is upon us, and that means time in the sun with drink in hand, amirite? Nothing can ruin a lazy sunday quite as much as warm beer, so we expect koozies to be popular this year. But these drink insulators are limited in their effectiveness. The Artican is a brand new take on the koozie, featuring “2-layers of vacuum insulated steel & an ice-filled “cooling core” that screws into the bottom keeping your 12 oz. bevvies 3X colder for 3X longer—up to 3 hours in the sun actually.” The core is filled with a “proprietary freezing gel” with a high specific heat coefficient, meaning it can absorb a lot of heat before it starts to warm up, making for an effective temperature buffer. And while $20 may seem like a lot for a beer cooler, just remember the last time you sipped lukewarm lager and you might change your mind.

Dragon Cake Pan Must Be Ours

cake1

With Game of Thrones in full swing, everyone’s thinking of dragons. At least we are, especially when they look as delicious as the cake that comes out of the Dragon Cake Pan pictured above. I mean, if you’re going to go through the trouble of baking a cake, why not make it something to remember? Layers are good, dragons are better. The thing has a 10 1/2″ diameter and is 4″ tall, so that’s a decent sized cake. It’s $24, but could cost twice as much and we’d still consider purchasing it. It’s currently backordered, but Thinkgeek is quoting a 1-3 lead time.

Nexpaq Case Gives Your Current Phone Ara-like Functionality

Nexpaq-Modular-Smartphone-Case-image-1-672x372

Remember Phone Bloks? No? What about Project Ara? In case you need a refresher, this is one of Google’s projects, one that will create a completely modular smartphone, where individual hardware components can easily be replaced, independently of others, at your discretion. Well, it’s a nice idea but it’s taking a while to get to market. Meanwhile, we have a cool case here that purports to do much the same thing, only with an iPhone 6, Galaxy S5 or Galaxy S6 Edge. The case comes with a 1,000mAh battery, and you can add up to 6 different modules that can do a variety of things, like a breathalyzer, an Air Quality sensor, an SD card reader, extra battery modules, a Super LED flashlight, and more. The integrated battery powers the modules, and can also give your phone extra juice. Modules can be swapped between cases, so an Android user could technically trade one of his modules with an iPhone 6 user. And of course the SDK is open so third party developers are free to make new modules that will work with the Nexpaq case.

It’s an awesome idea, and if it works as advertised, we can’t wait to try it out. Better yet, the pricing seems to be just right, with the case and four modules starting at $89, or $109 if you miss the Early Bird pricing. It is fully funded, but you’ll sadly have to wait until August 2016 to get yours.

Orbit1 Brings Electroplating To The Home

orbit1-1

You may have bought a 3D printer, and that’s all well and good, but maybe you’re growing tired of making plastic objects. Plastic is great and all, but you know what’s nicer? Metal. Now, with the Orbit1 Tabletop Electroplater, you can take a freshly printed object, and plate it in Copper or Nickel, with options for Gold and Palladium if the company’s crowdfunding goes well. The way it works starts with you polishing and finishing your object as well as you can. Then you have to spray it with a conductive paint and wait a few minutes for it to dry. When that’s done, just dip it in the electroplating solution and wait as the process completes. An app will allow you to track progress, and in as little as a few minutes or up to a couple of hours (depending on the desired thickness of the coating), you’ll have a metal object that you printed at home.

Want to make your loved one a nice ring? This is the way to go. Heck, it doesn’t even have to be something you printed; you could make a gold plated tree leaf for all you care. The machine itself will set you back a hefty $1,999, while the electroplating solution works out to about $2 per gram, in Copper. That’s a heck of a lot, but could be a nice investment for someone looking to start a small business, maybe an Etsy shop or something. If the funding is completed, expect delivery by August 2016.

The Lazy Person’s Dream: Smart Lights

Every weekday, our friends at Faveable compile a list of awesome gadgets and gear that men would love to discover.

41j8oKXW1mL

Wait, we’re not calling you lazy. We promise. But, we’ve all been a little too passive to deal with the lighting situation in the house. Sometimes, you’re working diligently in a corner of the room (only half paying attention to the TV) as the sun dips below the horizon.  You need the lights on, but… you just want to get through “this one thing!” And then there’s the moment when you’ve gotten comfortable on the couch and just discovered that new Netflix release that is certain to change your life (and watercooler chatter). Getting up to dim the lights is a hassle sometimes. That’s why the faveable team spent time checking out all the smart lights that might just change your life. And really, we’re not calling you lazy either (though you might be – just a little – after you go through the selections.)

Bruno Is The World’s First Smart Trashcan

bruno

It’s called Bruno, and it’s a connected trash can. You may wonder why your trash can needs to be connected, but let us assure you this is a really cool product, but not for its “connected features.” In fact, Bruno is more than a can, it’s also a vacuum. See that opening at the bottom? Well, it sucks stuff in. So the way you use Bruno is that you broom around your house, but instead of bending over with a dust pan and walking over to the can, you just sweep it right up to Bruno, who’ll then suck it up. Sensors on the inside alert you when you need to change the collection bag, and it stores a bunch of empty bags so you don’t have to go around looking for new ones when it’s time to take the trash out. And of course, it is a trashcan, a motion sensing lid opens up for full hands-free operation. It’s battery operated, so you can move it around the house, and it won’t need a charge for around 30 days!

It’s a decent looking trashcan with innovative features that amply justify the $159 asking price, on their fully-funded Kickstarter campaign. But don’t wait until it hits retail shelves, because the price then goes up to $229.
