The HyperDrive Is The One Dongle To Rule Them All

We’re not going to make any commentary about how Steve Jobs is probably rolling in his grave. We’re not going to whine about Apple’s increasingly boneheaded design decisions. Instead, we’re just going to leave this right here. It’s the HyperDrive, and it gives you back all the freaking ports Apple took away on the new MacBook Pro. Oh, you don’t think you can work with only 3 Thunderbolt ports and 2 USB-C ports? That’s fine, here’s a sleek, nicely designed adapter that features USB-A ports, a SD Card or microSD slot, HDMI port, Thunderbolt 3-enabled USB-C port and USB 3.1 USB-C port. It’s able to handle data throughput speeds of up to 50GB/s, and full power charging since it handles up to 100W. It’s small enough to carry in a pocket and people are so excited about it, the Kickstarter is now funded almost 5 times over. It’s a $69 pledge, with deliver in March 2017. But hurry up, quantities are limited.

It’s Time For The Tactical Christmas Stockings

It’s becoming a bit of a thing that around this time each year, we remind you about the existence of these awesome Tactical Christmas Stockings. Made out of rip stop nylon, these badass looking stockings feature MOLLE loops on the outside, but no loops on the inside. There’s a draw-string pouch, a zipper pouch, and a Velcro loop for patches. Insert as many candy canes, lollipops, and assorted doodads to end up with a Christmas Stocking that’s chock full of stuff, inside and out. And make a statement in the process. What that statement is though… we’re not sure. All we can tell you is it’s $25.

Chronos 1.4, High Speed Photography On A Budget

chronos-1-4-high-speed-camera

It’s pretty likely you’ve seen high speed videos before. There are entire YouTube channels built around the technology (like the Slow Mo Guys), and watching these is always fascinating. But of course, making a video like that requires very expensive cameras that easily cost in the five and six figure range. If you’d like to get in on the action but don’t have the Hollywood budget, we’d like to turn your attention to the Chronos 1.4. It’s able to record up to 21,649fps, albeit at 640 X 96 resolution. Alternatively, it can shoot in full 1,280 X 1,024 resolution at 1,057fps. As a matter of fact, it’s called Chronos 1.4 for its maximum data throughput of 1.4 gigapixel per second, meaning that you can trade resolution for speed on a sliding scale while keeping the throughput constant at 1.4 Gpx/s. It looks and works like a normal camera in almost every other respect, compact enough for you to carry around in a small bag, and ready to shoot in an instant. It’s more features that we can possibly list on this article, so we suggest you visit their Kickstarter, where you can also sign up to get one when they become available. Prices start at $2,799, which is about 1/10th the price of a similar camera from the current players in this field.

Quadsaw Cuts Square Holes

quadsaw_1

You’re elbow deep into your home renovations and now’s the time to start cutting some holes into the drywall so you can fit a bunch of electric outlets. Well, have fun. You’re going to have to get the reciprocating saw out and do your best to cut in a straight line. Or, you could just get the Quadsaw adapter, which would allow you to cut a rectangular hole in one go, in as little as 30 seconds. It connects to a drill, which powers the four reciprocating blades simultaneously. We don’t know the exact size of the hole it makes, but we’re really hoping there’s a standard for electric outlet hardware which this device matches. The blades, incidentally, can also be repositioned to cut a perfect square, but once again we don’t know which size and their website doesn’t seem to specify it. It’s also really not cheap, at £199 (~$250 USD), but if you’re an electrician, construction worker, or just a really prolific DIYer, it might be a worthwhile investment.

Does Anyone Really Need A Keurig For Cookies?

chip_1

It’s pretty amazing how many appliances are starting to use the single-serve, pod-based, Keurig-like method of delivering their goods to your mouth. The latest one to come to our attention is the CHiP Cookie Oven, that uses raw cookie pods with a barcode; the device scans the code, then uploads baking information to the appliance through WiFi. It’ll know just what temperature to set itself to, and for how long to circulate its hot air over your snacks, which will be ready in roughly 10 minutes. The cookie pods will be sold to you through a subscription service, which, depending on the service level, will give you cookies ranging in price from 88 cents to $2. Full retail price is expected to be $249, but the current Kickstarter campaign will give Early Birds a CHiP Cookie Oven for as little as $99.

Convert Your Bicycle To Electric In 30 Seconds With The Electron Wheel

electron-wheel

You might’ve thought about getting an electric bicycle a couple times, but were discouraged by the high prices. Or maybe you wanted to convert your bike to electric assist, but were deterred by the complexity of the installation. Well, unlike other similar offerings, the Electron Wheel goes on the front wheel, making it possible to get setup in as little as 30 seconds. It’s a fully self-contained 250W propulsion system that can power your bike up to 20mph speeds, with a max range of 30 miles. After connecting to your smartphone, you can set it to kick in when the pedal sensor detects you’re putting in more effort (in a hill, for example), gradually assisting you so that you can climb with ease, only when you need it. There’s even a quick charging option that’ll get you up to your 30 mile range in as little as 2 hours.

It’s $799, and the optional quick charger is an extra $85.

This Beer Gives Your Dog A Nicer Smelling Bum

bottom-sniffer-dog-beer_28520

Dogs say “hi” by smelling each other’s behinds. It’s a bit of a funny practice, and even funnier to imagine what the world would look like if we did the same thing… In any case, the makers of Bottom Sniffer Dog Beer decided to try to capitalize on this behaviour by launching a non-alcoholic brew that is meant to give your pooch a better smelling rump. This way he can… I dunno, be the envy of the other neighbourhood dogs?

Bottom Sniffer Dog Beer is a beer for your dog and it’s destined to make their lives better; raising their status in the pack and drastically improving their chances with the opposite sex. The brew contains Dandelion & Burdock along with an array of other herbs to endow your pooch with a delectably-scented sphincter. All the other dogs will either be chasing after that arse or wishing that they possessed such a fragrant rump.

Considering some of the ridiculous things people buy for their pets, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this product do well. It’s not outrageously priced either, at £12.99 (about $16USD) for a 4-pack.

Side Facing Apple Charger Plug

side-facing-apple-charger-plug-640x533

It’s the little things, we like to say. But it’s true. Sometimes the smallest change can make such a huge difference. For anyone with an Apple charger, you’ll know there are situations where you can’t power up due to its design. The Blockhead Side-Facing Plug for Apple Adapters and Chargers changes all that by making it possible to plug the transformer sideways, giving it a slim profile. It’s a simple $20 adapter, but it’s one that makes a heck of a big difference.
