Take a Picture of Your Food and This App Counts the Calories For You

Ceres-Calorie-App

Counting calories involves a lot more work than you think. From keeping food diaries that you have to update with every meal and snack to looking up alternatives in case what you just ate isn’t on the list, calorie counting can be a pain. The good news is that there’s an app that’s currently in the works that makes it easier for weight watchers and health buffs.

The project is called Ceres, and it’s basically an app that lets users count calories by having them take pictures of their food. The actual counting is up to the app.

Check Out Dart, The World’s Smallest Laptop Adapter

Dart Laptop Charger

If you work out of the office a lot, then chances are you’ve had to deal with lugging a bulging laptop bag around because of the bulky adapter that it came with. Leaving it really isn’t an option, considering there’s only so much–or rather, so little–that you can do on limited power. It’s a problem people face, day in and day out, and it’s one that the folks behind Dart pretty much solved with its release.

Dart is dubbed as the “world’s smallest laptop adapter” and that might very well be true if you look at the images of it. It’s roughly four times smaller than the average 65W charger, with a volume of only 2.5 cubic inches. It comes with a six foot cable and comes with an integrated USB port, allowing you to charge your laptop and another device, like you tablet, at the same time.

Damnit, Expelliarmus: ‘Harry Potter’ Dementor Prank

Remember those soul-sucking creatures from Harry Potter that can seal your fate with a single, fatal kiss? If you’re a fan of the franchise, then you probably do. Two dudes decided to have a little fun with the character by bringing it to life. Save for a hooded black robe and a dude who does a good impression of being possessed, the duo don’t have any props but their little prank was still a roaring success. I almost feel bad for all the people they scared…well, almost.

Half of them probably didn’t get the Harry Potter reference but seeing such strangeness right before your very eyes might be enough to freak an average person out. I know I probably would’ve been, too. Check it out!

Not a Good Idea If You’re On a Diet: Burrito Yoga Bag

Burrito Yoga Baga

Everyone’s into yoga these days and for good reason, too. Whether you want to stay fit or be more flexible, yoga is the way to go. With so many people into yoga these days, the bevy of related merch and gear like this Burrito Yoga Bag isn’t surprising. However, if you’re attending classes for the primary reason of getting fit, then you might want to get another bag for obvious reasons.

The bag is just the right size and shape for most yoga mats and basically looks like a giant burrito wrapped in foil on the outside. The Burrito Yoga Bag is priced at $40, which costs more than the average yoga bag and way more than a burrito, but the awesomeness is worth it.

On a High: First Marijuana Vending Machine is Rolled Out

Marijuana Vending Machine

Is there anything you can not get from a vending machine these days? The first marijuana vending machine–at least, in Colorado–was recently rolled out on the patio of Montana’s Smokehouse in Avon. It’s different from other pot-dispensing vending machines in the sense that it’s accessible by anyone. For example, marijuana vending machines already exist in California, but they’re often located behind counters so you wouldn’t be able to dispense it yourself.

However, even though access to the machine isn’t limited, access to marijuana is. Only those who are medical marijuana cardholders will be able to dispense the goods, since the machine is equipped with a scanner that verifies the person’s ID first before dispensing anything.

Stephen Shearin, who is the COO of Tranzbyte, explains that he believes the machine will be a lot of help for folks who might feel shy having to buy marijuana, even though they’re doing so legally.

The Johammer J1 is a 125-Mile Range Electric Bike

Johammer J1 -

You ain’t seen nothing yet when it comes to electric bikes unless you’ve seen the Johammer J1. One thing that has discouraged a lot of people from going for electric motorcycles is the limited range, when compared to the gas-guzzling variety. You might argue that electric cars like the Tesla have great range for something that runs on electricity, but that’s because the fact that they’re cars means that they’ve got more space for batteries.

The Johammer J1 puts electric bikes back in the running though with its 125-mile range, which is way better than previous numbers. Its sleek and futuristic design and the fact that it looks pretty bad-ass is just icing on the cake.

Bang! Check Mate: Bullet Chess Set

Bullet Chess Set

Why play chess with your old board when you can play with this one? It’s the chess set made using dummy rounds and spent shell casings by Etsy seller OldeWorldCC and it’s nothing short of awesome. The pieces aren’t just old casings that have been cleaned up and polished and then stuck on a board; rather, they’re cut, curled, and shaped to look like the pieces that they actually represent.

A variety of chess sets are available on his Etsy shop, with prices starting at $345. It’s pricier than your typical chess set, but you won’t find pieces like these elsewhere, that’s for sure.Continue Reading

Dry In 30 Seconds: Body Dryer Eliminates Need to Towel Off

Body Dryer

So this gadget right here that looks almost like a weighing scale (oh wait, it actually also happens to be one!) could get rid of towels once and for all. Aptly called the Body Dryer, it promises to dry you off in half a minute or less, which is way faster than you could ever dry yourself off with a towel.

The Body Dryer has been in development for over two years, creator Tyler Overk explains. He adds: “We realized that there’s so many germs, so much bacteria that we’re reusing and putting back onto our bodies after we’ve cleaned ourselves from the shower or even coming out of the pool. We came up with eliminating towels.”

Ain’t What It Seems: Covert Motorcycle Security Camera

Motorcycle Security Camera

Security cameras come in different shapes and sizes. Some are extremely small, such as the ones installed in clocks and fixtures, for example. Others are large but still discrete, like this motorcycle security camera by Japan Security System Co. As the name implies, it’s a security camera in the shape of a motorcycle. Despite being much larger than your typical security camera, it relies on just that to keep a low profile.

They’re meant to be installed at the entrances of hotels and other establishments where it would be uncommon to find a motorcycle there. Instead of head and tail lights, it has off-the-shelf video cameras installed instead. Two side-facing cameras are also installed on the seat.Continue Reading
