This Duvet Cover Makes Itself

There’s now a duvet cover that can make itself at the touch of a button. Yes, that’s the kind of world we live in. The SmartDuvet is a $269 system that automagically straightens your duvet flat by inflating a lattice-shaped bladder at a preset time. The system connects to your smartphone and allows you to schedule when it does its thing, so that you can sleep in on Saturdays for example, but we imagine it can also inflate on demand. If it manages to fully fund, it should ship in May 2017.

The Jeep Revolution BFR-3 Go-kart Is A Kid’s Dream

jeep-revolution-bfr-3-go-kart

Being the age I am, the kind of wheeled toys I had as a child never involved much more than a flimsy plastic trike with a big wheel up front; you know the ones, straight from the 80’s golden years. Man, what I wouldn’t have given to get my hands on the Jeep Revolution BFR-3 Go-kart.

The Jeep® Revolution BFR-3 is a sturdy go-kart with no fewer than three gears, back-pedal brake and a unique system that allows you to pedal both forwards and backwards! Thanks to the double ball bearings steering is extremely light, making you very manoeuvrable in every curve. The go-kart can be extended with a second seat, for instance, so your friend can join the ride. And if you do want to take a break, you can simply put it upright in the shed!

Optional equipment includes a sport steering wheel, heavy duty brake pads, a spare tire, and even a ‘board computer’. So not only is the BFR-3 already pretty badass, you can actually upgrade the darn thing? It’s awesome… but come to think of it, even if it would have exited in my childhood, I never would have driven one: it’s $1,000!

Encode Ring Takes Your Voice, Makes It Into A Ring

3d-gold-ring-1170x652

A recording of your voice can easily be visualized in a computer with a waveform printout. You can say something cheesy like “I love you”, and you’ll see your voiceprint as a series of peaks and valleys representing the audio waves generated by your voice. Now a company called Encore Ring can take this waveform and turn it into a ring for you. When you visit the company website, you’ll be prompted to record a 3 second message which they’ll visualize for you and will even convert into a 3D model of the ring you could decide to purchase. You simply have to choose which type of metal you want, and select a ring size. Prices start at ¥12,960 (roughly $124USD) for a stainless steel ring, and go all the way up to ¥129,600 ($1,235USD) for Platinum.

It’s very similar to the Sound Advice Project we wrote about in 2009, and which proved to be a runaway success.

Step Up Your Production Values With the Edelkrone Wing

edelkrone-Wing

There are a few simple techniques that make footage look more professional, the cinematic slide being one of the more effective ones. However, getting a nice slide going usually requires some rails to be set up, and these can be bulky to transport. A cool alternative is the Edelkrone Wing. It’s a folding double-arm system that makes it super easy to get up to 16 inches of slide, yet folds down to about 4 inches for easy transport. It’s a manual system, and the friction levels are adjustable so you can get the exact resistance and speed desired for your slide. It’s an essential tool to have for anyone who takes their photography seriously, although at $250, it’s a little too expensive for the casual user.

Walabot Lets You See Through Walls

diy-header-fade

If you’ve ever done any sort of semi-serious home renovations, you might have ended up buying a stud finder. So you might be familiar with the concept of peeking behind your drywall in the hopes of figuring out what’s there. But regular stud finders are limited. Walabot is a device that connects to an Android smartphone (running 5.0 (Lollipop) and above with OTG) and lets you peek up to 4 inches deep, drawing a digital representation of what it finds, right on your screen. It detects plastic and metal pipes, electrical wires, as well as studs. You’ll see their shape an orientation, and will be able to cut through without worrying about severing something important. The $200 you’ll have to spend on this will be money well spent for anyone who takes their DIY game seriously.
