This is really great. It’s an entirely self-contained home theater solution. The DV10, from company Optoma, integrates a DVD player, a set of speakers (two 5-watt stereo) and a projector. All you have to do is show up at a friend’s house with this, place it 5ft away from a white wall, pop in a DVD and you’ll be able to enjoy a 50inch screen, right then and there. It’s even HDTV compatible!
Of course, you can use it like a standard projector as well. It comes with a bunch of I/O connections (Composite (RCA), D-sub 15 VGA(analog RGB/component/HDTV), S-Video, RS-232 communication, Stereo audio in, Stereo audio out, Optical audio out), so you can play games, connect your satellite, hook up your real sound system, etc.
It features brightness of 1,000 lumens, a contrast ratio of 4,000:1 and a bulb life of 2,000 hours. So, as a regular projector, it does well enough also.
The price for all this wonder? $1500.

HP had one of these on the market a year ago..
Ditto on the HP comment. Their all in one projector was out a year ago.
This looks alot like the Cinego they have at radioshack. Only the Cinego can project upto 144″ and has built in speakers and has a 2000 lumens bulb.. Also the cinego only cost $1300.

It’s Radioshack – the place I go to buy cables. Their machine is a little clunky looking.
I like the looks of this one, so I’ll have to check it out when it gets to my local store. To have one around that I can plug in, stick in Dora, and then have my kids happy while we have parties is a great thing.

Hi can anyone tell me about what specs make a projector a good one to buy? like the amount of Lumens to contrast ratio. It seems the Optoma DV10 features a brightness of 1,000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 4,000:1.
I was at radio shack yesterday looking at the one they have it is only 800 lumes, and has a contrast ratio of 1000:1, also it does not play in HD in any way at all, and it does not have as many I/O ports. The DV10 does come with speakers and if you go through compusa.com you also get a free sub, a free screen, 2 free movies, popcorn, and candy. Its there movie bundle package.

That is really small. I wonder how well it fills the room. I have lasways been intrigued by those little Boss systems.
The price is ridiculous though
I have one of these. You can get them for 800.00 at the online dealers generally. Having used it to watch the Lord of the Rings Id have to say the quality kicks butt and I can get it up to a 100 inches wide… you generally run out of wall space first tho. I was surprised when I first used it at how bright it was and how crisp the picture was for something you aim at a wall.
Just purchased from Circut City. WOW this unit is nice. If you can get it at the sale price with the screen and subwoofer this is a steal. We took it outside and set-up our own little drive-in worked great. Only drawback was sound. Outside it gets just loud enought to hear. I am sure that inside there is no issue with the sound. I figure once I get the subwoofer ad-on this will solve our low sound for outdoor viewing. Overall I am very please with this unit.
Just purchased one of these units yesterday. also from Circuit City. Picture as excellent, the sound is a bit weak, but for the price of $500, it can’t be beat. You get an all-in-one package that allows you to project anywhere, plus no need to plug in a DVD player or sound to listen.
Sending the rebate form in for my sub-woofer and 92″ screen.
I did notice that the DVD player had problems reading my disc, but perhaps because these were not the original movies.
