Can The Force Help You Afford This $10,000 R2-D2 Pinball Table/Coffee Table?

R2-D2-coffee-table-pinball-machine-1

You have to be a serious fan of the franchise to consider dropping 10 large on a coffee table. Sure, it’s decked out to look a lot like R2-D2. And sure, it’s got a fully functional pinball table as its core. And yeah, sure, there’s even a mini slideprojector (picturing R2 in the Death Stars’ sewage), a flashlight, sounds, lighting programs, and a fully functional animated droid on the play field. And ok, yeah, it did take over 320 hours to assemble… But $10,000? Yeah. That’s a heck of a lot for a piece of functional furniture, no matter how cool it looks. Still, if you’re really motivated, it does look like the company, Altar Furniture, will make you one.

The HexHog Is The Ultimate Offroad Wheelchair

hexhog_atv_wheelchair_1

If you’re going to venture off road, with a typical ATV, you’re usually going to need your limbs in full functional order to toggle clutches and foot brake levers. But those of us with limited mobility would still like to explore the great outdoors, so the HexHog was created to accommodate them. It’s a six-wheeled, battery-powered all terrain vehicle that is as adapted to disabled use, as it is badass. With a range of 12mi. and a top speed of 8.5mph, the HexHog isn’t going to win any races, but that’s not its point.

– A patented flexing chassis providing stability superior to an ATV without needing to actively lean or ride. The chassis mechanism will ensure all six wheels maintain contact when traversing rough terrain, rocks and steep steps while minimising seat movement for a comfortable ride in the most extreme environments.

– Lithium-ion battery power plant, meaning no vibration, fumes or noise from engines with a long range, in addition to providing a fast charge of less than 2 hours.

– A seat transfer system, which advances and lowers the driving seat to a position for independent transfer from a wheelchair.

– All-wheel drive providing maximum off-road traction. The sealed 6×6 transmission and raised drive motors in conjunction with the flexing chassis will allow the HexHog to tread water, travel through mud bogs, and cross snow or sand without harm or reduction in performance.

– Electronic drive architecture, giving maximum independence to wheelchair users with varying abilities. The HexHog employs the latest control architecture, with a programmable joystick allowing safe operation on steep slopes and rough terrain. Bespoke adjustments can be made to suit all driving styles and safe operation with reduced dexterity or upper limb movement.

We don’t know how much it costs and we can just imagine it’s not cheap, but the point is that such technology does exist and can bring joy in someone otherwise already challenging life.

Iron Man Mark XLIII 1/1th Scale Bluetooth Speaker (Limited Edition)

iron_man_life_size_helmet_bluetooth_speaker_by_brando_1

You’re looking at a Bluetooth speaker that’s shaped like Iron Man’s head. Or more like his mask. It streams music through Bluetooth, but also can connect to a USB flash drive or a 3.5mm audio jack. It has two 40mm 3W midrange drivers and an 82mm 15W woofer, which should be enough to get decent sound out of it. It won’t do anything to quell people’s strange looks as they notice you with a decapitated Iron Man, but that shouldn’t deter you. And much like the floating Iron Man suit we wrote about in January, it’s pretty expensive at $449. But hey, it does look legitimately kind of cool so if money’s no object, know it’ll ship around the end of May.

Foot Powered Washing Machine Works Off The Grid

Yirego-Drumi-Off-Grid-Washer-image-1-672x372

Before we harnessed electricity, we used to wash clothes with a little elbow grease. But we’ve had powered washing machines for so long, it’s easy to forget that sometimes we may need to get clothes clean when the power is out, and a washboard isn’t necessarily the best way to go about it. While not as portable as the Scrubba Bag, the Yirego Drumi Off Grid Washer is a foot-powered washer and spin-dryer that uses no electricity to do its job. You simply insert some garments in the inner sphere, which is full of holes and ridges. Add some detergent and get to pumping with your foot. The sphere turns, tumbling your clothes in the water and soap, getting them clean. Draining the dirty water is done through the press of a button. The device looks good and modern, and may offer some of the more eco-conscious among us an alternative means of staying fresh and clean. It’s a $129CAD (about $107USD) pre-order, and two heaping spoonfuls of patience since delivery is slated for July 2016!

Forever Alone: The Selfie Arm Makes It Look Like You Have Friends

selfiearm

Oh, what a sad lonely world we live in. Think about it. There’s a product out there made specifically for you to take selfies while making it look like you’re in someone’s company.

Or not. There isn’t. Thank God. The Selfie Arm is actually a piece of art by Aric Snee and Justin Crowe.

It’s the sarcastic solution to a quintessential problem — nobody wants to look alone while they mindlessly snap pictures of themselves — the product conveniently provides you a welcoming arm. and better yet, it doesn’t talk or have emotions of any sort. you can even create fake accounts and use its finger to like all your images; its not you its the hand! ‘selfie arm’ is made of fiberglass, is lightweight and portable, and fortunately only a prototype. the collaborative project is a direct commentary on the growing selfie stick phenomenon, and the constant, gnawing need for narcissistic internet validation.

But of course, this kind of art is likely to be nothing but inspiration to some company turning the idea into actual product you can buy. Mark our words, it’s just a matter of time before this is a thing, at least as a gag item. If it isn’t already.

These Wetsuits Are Actual Suits

wetsuit-suits-1

We never thought that surfers donning their wetsuits looked too casual. They’re… surfing, after all. But we suppose that there are those who will feel that even this field could use a little bit of a fashion spruce up. So the True Wetsuits were designed to look just like a regular suit, only made from 2mm thick Neoprene with a quick-dry shirt and tie. They come in smart, business casual and tuxedo varieties. We’re not exactly clear on what occasions these suits are supposed to be worn, whether to look snazzy while surfing, or to have an option to take a swim while out and about. Like if you’re at a black tie event and someone pushes you in the pool, or something. We just don’t get fashion these days, but when something costs $3,200 as these suits do, we assume someone somewhere knows what they’re doing and if we had that kind of disposable income we might even consider not having enough sense, and just buying them. We don’t judge.

Ok, we do a little.

Ok, a lot.
