Is The Nano Falcon The World’s Smallest RC Helicopter?

nano-falcon-2

Weighing in at a ridiculous 11g and measuring 65mm across, the Nano Falcon from Japanese company CCP could very well be the world’s smallest such toy. For a bit of perspective, the iPhone 5 weighs 112g, so roughly 10 times more. It’s gyro stabilized and uses contra-rotating blades instead of a tail rotor and despite its small size, manages around 5 minutes of flight time on a 30 minute charge. The range from the IR remote is a little pitiful at 5 meters, but this isn’t the kind of toy you’re expected to take outside. If you know someone of the right age whose birthday is right around the corner, it’ll cost you ¥4,704 ($48) to make them happy. It’s available in Japan, starting June 7th.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Spotted on Samsung Apps Website

Samsung S4 Mini

People got a sneak peek–albeit, a very quick one–at Samsung’s Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, as it was allegedly spotted on the UK Samsung Apps page. It was quickly pulled from the site, but not before it was spotted and a screenshot of it saved by the alert folks over at Redmond Pie.

The product listing for the Galaxy S4 mini, which had the model number GT-i9195, indicated that the device was still being created by the manufacturer. No other details have been provided either officially or unofficially for the much-awaited little brother of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Rumors suggest that the device will have a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display and will have a dual-core Exynos 5-series processor running under the hood, with at least two Cortex-A15 cores working at 1.6GHz.

Shibaful iPhone Case Wraps Your Phone Around Yoyogi Park

Shibaful

Love the feeling of young grass on your feet? How would you like to experience the same sensation on your hands whenever you reach for your phone? That’s what you can expect when you get the Shibaful case for your iPhone.

It’s a lush case that’s modeled after the grass at the Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. The Shibaful might look like a novelty item, but it’s actually a functional piece of art of sorts. It’s made using electrostatic flocking, where five differently-colored fiber particles are dropped from above. This causes the formation of the distinct grassy texture of the Shibaful.

A Bright Engagement: Man Builds Induction-Powered LED Engagement Ring for Fiance

LED Engagement Ring

If you like it, then you should put a ring on it. But let’s do one up Beyonce and say that if you love her, then you’ll go ahead and build a ring for her. That’s what Ben Kokes did for his fiance. It took nearly four months and nine prototype versions before Ben was done with his project. He presented the ring to his girl this month and she loved it so much that she decided to make it her permanent ring instead of going to the jeweler to get one. Pretty neat, huh?

Ben started out by designing and developing a circuit that would be able to power up the ring inductively. In the end, he used a coil of wire wound around kaplon tape as the inductor and a small SMD capacitor to power up three tiny ultra-bright LEDs.

Caffeinated Granulated Sugar: Why Should Only Your Coffee Have A Kick?

1246_jacked_up_caffeinated_baking_sugar

Jacked Up Caffeinated Baking Sugar is sugar that you can cook with, which comes with a little extra morning boost. Now cookies, muffins, cakes and even pancakes can pick you up if you incorporate some of this sugar in your recipe. Of course, you probably already had that figured out from its name, so we’re not really telling you anything. So on to the facts: 1 tsp of the stuff contains 46 mg of caffeine, while 1 Tbsp has 137 mg and one cup, 2200 mg. Now, for reference, a 16oz. coffee from Dunkin Donuts has between 143-206mg, and your Starbucks’ Venti Bold Pick Of the Day packs a whopping 415mg. You’ll want to notice that it’ll take about three table spoonfuls of Jacked Up to have as much caffeine as a Starbucks large, so you’re probably not going to want to replace all the sugar in your recipes with this stuff. Figure out just how potent you want that wedding cake to be, and replace only a portion of the required sugar with Jacked Up. A 40oz. bag will set you back all of $15.

The Toy We Never Knew We Wanted: A QuadCopter RC Car

quadcoptercar

UK-based product designer Witold Mielniczek has created the above prototype, which is both an off-road remote controlled car, and quadcopter. It’s called: B. As you would expect, the rear-wheel powered vehicle does drive about like a regular off-road RC car, but at the touch of a button can be airborne. Each wheel is “driven not by a center-mounted axle, but instead by cog mechanisms at the bottom of the rim. This leaves the center of the rings clear for four 7-inch propellers, which allow the vehicle to get airborne on the fly (no pun intended).” The wheels are flexible and have special mounts that allow for hard landings without breaking. A full charge of the battery gives you around 15 minutes of flying/driving time. And best of all is the inclusion of a 720p video camera that can record point-of-view footage to a Micro SD card. You totally shouldn’t go spy on your neighbors or anything because that’s probably illegal… We’re just saying that it’s something the B can do.

Of course, you’re going to have to pay for it. It’s doing the Kickstarter dance, and a pledge of $484 will get you a disassembled version with no remote while at $605, you’ll get it fully assembled and with an RC transmitter.

Mataerial 3D Printer Goes Against the Laws of Gravity

Mataerial

The Mataerial 3D printer is as unconventional as 3D printers can get. It deviates in design and functionality from most other 3D printers, which are usually box-like in shape and structure. The latter also requires a dedicated print surface in order to print things as you intended and designed them to be.

For this reason, the Mataerial has been dubbed as the ‘anti-gravity 3D printer’ since you can use it on virtually any surface–including those inclined at an angle–or no surface at all! Thanks to its innovative extrusion technology, users will be able to form curves and print hanging structures without the need for any support material.

Cat Beards: Cat Required, Facial Hair Optional

Cat Beard

Cat Beards are a thing now. Images of cat owners positioning their felines strategically to make it look like they had a beard have gone viral over the past few days and the trend is still going strong.

The rest, as they say, is history–until the next best or funniest viral thing comes along. You can hit the break for a clip featuring the best of the best cat beards posted on the interwebs so far.

Teen Designs Device That Has the Potential to Charge Up Phones in Seconds

Charge Phone in Seconds

Sometimes I find myself hanging around the charger while everyone else starts trooping out the door because my phone is running low on power and wouldn’t last the night if I unplugged it then and there. But who knew you could charge up your phone in just 30 seconds with the right device?

Eighteen-year-old Eesha Khare designed a supercapacitor that has the potential to charge phones in about half a minute. The superconductor is designed to fit inside the battery, which, aside from the rapid charging, also lasts ten times longer than other existing devices. Eesha’s paper, entitled “Design and Synthesis of Hydrogenated TiO2-Polyaniline Nanorods for Flexible High-Performance Supercapacitors”, can be found here.
