Create Your Own Arcade Music With Pianocade

Pianocade

As expected, 8-bit games come with 8-bit music. I don’t know about you, but I always feel a strong sense of nostalgia every time I pass by my local arcade. It’s not just seeing all the arcade games that I used to play when I was still a kid; it was just the atmosphere, the sounds of the place, that reminded me so much of the childhood that once was.

If you’re missing the good old chiptune sounds of your old arcade gaming days, then you might want to check out the Pianocade. It’s a chiptune synthesizer that looks like an over-sized, extended version of your regular arcade game console. You’ll also be pleased to hear that the Pianocade is more than just a novelty product, as it boasts of a 128-note range and a MIDI connection.

Baladeo Folding Cutlery Set

Going on a camping trip? Planning to travel soon? Then you need to get yourself one of these Baladeo Folding Cutlery Sets. It’s like having a complete set of utensils all in one neat, little package.

The Baladeo Set resembles a Swiss Knife when it’s all folded up. But unfold and disassemble the entire thing and you’ll find that you’ve got a spork, a knife, a can opener, and a bottle opener. It’s compact and lightweight, weighing in at only 52 grams, and made from stainless steel. Just because you might be roughing it up outdoors doesn’t mean you have to eat with your bare hands. And it would be pretty useful to have this around especially if you’re going to chowing on a can of pork of beans for dinner, right?

The Baladeo Folding Cutlery Set is available from Moontrail for $49.

Sony Xperia S

The following article is sponsored. -Ed.

Usually when buying a smartphone it makes sense to aim for one of the established manufacturers. After all, with a few notable exceptions, they are the ones who have the necessary funding to spend on research and development – the most crucial element when sculpting a smartphone from a mere also-ran to a real technological marvel. However, the competition in this field is intense. Here’s a quick assessment of where your money might be best directed.

Sony Xperia S
In the nineties and early noughties Sony Ericsson was seen as the most likely manufacturer to topple Nokia from its perch of domination. How times have changed: neither Nokia nor Sony (as it is now having divorced Ericsson) could be deemed the champ. However Sony is clearly not prepared to accept this state of affairs, and has come up with the Xperia S as their latest ruse to enter and dominate the smartphone market. Its biggest selling point, at least in Sony’s eyes, is the prevalence of HD technology. Whether you’re taking photos or capturing video.

Using the same Bravia engine that fires their award-winning range of TVs Sony is clearly hoping for the Xperia S to be taken not simply as a smartphone, but a potential option for budding moviemakers. This is not to say it doesn’t have the tech-specs you’d expect from this kind of product. Using an internal flash-memory system, it packs a 32GB punch, as well as a 1.5 GHZ processor. But the real gem of the Xperia S, it’s worth emphasising, is the camera. The iPhone 4S has 8 Megapixels as does the Samsung Galaxy III. The Xperia S has 12.1 Megapixels! If what really matters is the quality of image you’re going to be taking or capturing and sharing with your circle, this will be one of the most popular mobile phones.

AppQuiz Turns Your iPad Into a Portable Game Show

AppQuiz

The iPad’s size is perfect for multi-player gaming. In fact, there are a lot of games out there that should be played by more than one player, like the quiz game that you can play with the AppQuiz iPad accessory.

It looks like half an octopus (minus the head), but it’s actually four buzzers that players are supposed to whack or press to take their turn. It comes with a free, game show-type app that features thousands of questions and a virtual host named Chuck Boldhart to keep things fun and entertaining. The AppQuiz dock itself is also compatible with the iPhone, but that would mean that all four players would have to squeeze a bit tighter together so they can see what’s being displayed on the screen.

Salomon’s Running Gloves Make The Act Of Holding Water In Your Hands Obsolete

We’re not runners here at OhGizmo HQ, so we can’t begin relate to the things that are a big deal to those who are. We suppose that holding a water bottle in your hands for a few hours, or having it on a belt of some kind, bumping against you, can get pretty annoying. So Salomon has gone ahead and created the Sense Hydro S-Lab Set, which is a special wrist strap designed to hold a 250ml soft-sided folding bottle without requiring you to actually close your fingers around it. Yeah, maybe that could give you an edge, what do we know? The folding design of the bottle means no sloshing of liquid as you deplete it, and the $40 Solomon is asking for will get you two of these, so you can have one on each hand.

They should be available in the next few months.

Oh, You Hipster You And Your Wooden Handlebar

We feel that riding the hipster hate train is getting a little old. Not because we like them any more, but just because we get it already. So it’s with a little bit of nonchalance that we bring you news of what we would normally consider outrageous: £245 oak handlebars. Yeah, that’s about $387 for a wooden stick. Granted, it’s a very pretty stick, shaped properly and made to fit an over-sized (31.8mm) stem. Made by London-based Deer Runner, it is “crafted from 4mm plied oak oil treated for weather protection.” And the brakes? Hipsters don’t need no brakes, guys. They ride fixies, remember? That’s those bikes with just one gear and where deceleration is accomplished by pushing your feet in the opposite direction, in case you’re not familiar.

So yeah, $400 wooden handlebars. Hit the jump for more pictures and links.

So maybe you could do what I did for your kids who are currently still in school, but in a more consistent and geeky manner. How? By letting them bring their lunch in this uber-cool Star Wars R2D2 Lunch Bag!

It looks awesome, it lights up, and it even makes fun beeping sounds once you push the button. It’s made from 100% PVC and is BPA free, so you don’t have to worry about food safety. It’s also padded with superior quality polyethylene foam insulation so your grub stays fresh.

The Star Wars R2D2 Lunch Bag is available for $19.99.
