Fancy Getting Dragged Around Underwater? There’s A Board For That

By David Ponce

This is not a new product, but we just now came across it. It’s called the Abyss Board and we think that’s a terrible name, but what it does is kind of interesting. The board features two side-mounted rotating fins with an opening for your forearms and hands. You tie the board to the back of a boat with some length of rope and tell your driver not to exceed 10 mph (16 km/h). You then dive. The fins allow you to navigate the underwater world with relative ease as the forward momentum and substantial drag of water will make them act like wings. The manufacturer describes the feeling as one of personal flight:

Command the board to dive beneath the surface, perform barrel rolls, fly upside-down, carve and return to the surface with total control. Imagine fighter jet maneuvers combined with underwater exploration.

Well… we’re not going to kid anyone. It does sound like some bit of fun, but not the $395 kind of fun the company hopes we’ll dish out.

Hit the jump for a video of the board in action and links.

Stem Accessory Lets You Squirt Fresh Citrus Juice

By David Ponce

We can’t really think of any occasion where we’d want to delicately spray citrus juice onto our food, but we’re not in any position to know as we consider deep fried pizza delectable. Should your gastronomical self be better suited to require such a thing, you should know that the Stem accessory in this article lets you take an actual citrus fruit and squirt the juice directly from it. Simply insert, squeeze and squirt. Clearly you won’t be able to get all the juice out of the fruit but if it’s fresh you’re after, then this is probably better than that bottled concentrated stuff we usually like to drown our fish and chips in.

The Stem is currently in the Quirky production process, which means it doesn’t yet have a date of availability, though their projected price for the item is $5. They’re honing the design and we do expect to see an actual product on shelves at some point.

Tackle Frozen Windshields With The Wiper Fluid Heater

By David Ponce

Yet another item in our winter related series, the Heated Windshield Washer Fluid System promises to make windshield scraping a thing of the past. If you’re like us, when it’s really cold, you just sit in your frozen car with the wipers stupidly and noisily going back and forth over a thick layer of ice, which you’ve sprayed multiple times with your useless blue wiper fluid. Of course the fluid doesn’t do anything, it’s just as cold as the ice on the windshield but you’re too lazy to get out. So you wait. But if you had this system, in 30 seconds the fluid would be heated to 143º F and 150º F, quickly melting all that ice away and allowing you to remain lazy. It draws 2 Amps of power on average and turns itself off when the car is off. Also in the summer months, warm washer fluid will do a better job of removing insects and grime, so the $90 you’ll spend to get this will work year round.

Deal Of The Day: $150 Off Dell Inspiron 11z

By David Ponce

The Dell Inspiron 11z is an 11.6 inch laptop that happens to have an HDMI port, along with some other decent specs. These include “2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Wireless-N & WiMAX, 6-cell battery, 1.3-Megapixel Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS and more.” The model in today’s deal comes with a 1.2GHz ULV Core i3-330UM from Intel, and what makes this interesting is that after a $150 rebate, you’re looking at only $350 to get your hands on one. As usual, shipping is free.

Corsair Vengeance 1500 Gaming Headset Reviewed. Verdict: Outstanding.

It’s very seldom that virtual surround gaming headset gets such high approval but the Corsair Vengeance 1500 Gaming Headset proved to be a real head-turner. This latest gaming-centric but still multipurpose headset has garnered high marks for sound quality and compatibility. Almost every physical feature of it has been upgraded. The padded ear cups fit better and are more comfortable than previous models and do an excellent job of sound isolation without actually requiring noise canceling features. The cable has a nylon mesh wrapping for tangle free flexibility but warns against unwanted feline affinity.

The 5.1 and 7.1 audio driver flexibility seems to be the key feature of this headset allowing for compatibility for many old and new games alike. The 1500 provides game changing environmental awareness for games but movies and music are similarly enhanced. They appear to be very evenly balanced without favoring treble or bass. The reviewer actually seemed to struggle to find flaws with the Vengeance. In fact, the only complaints seemed to be around some of the nuances of microphone performance. Gamers that use the microphone for in-game communication are rarely concerned with music hall performance so that should be a non-issue for most. See the entire review at Everything USB for more details on this new prodigy from Corsair.

Video: Samsung Continues To Troll Apple’s Customers In New Commercial

By David Ponce

A while ago we posted a video of Samsung’s commercial for the Galaxy S II. We liked it a lot because, well, it was funny and true. It depicted stereotypical Apple customers lining up for hours for an upcoming launch, only to be made to feel stupid by the sudden appearance of Samsung’s device. Well, here’s another one. It’s just as clever and hopefully marks the start of a new campaign, like Apple “Mac v. PC”.

WHILL Retrofits Any Wheelchair To Turn It Into A Sort Of Segway

By David Ponce

Being confined to a wheelchair is not easy, at least we can’t imagine it is. And while being able to propel yourself with your arms can become second nature after a while, some electric assistance can probably be appreciated over longer distances. Currently in development in Japan, the WHILL is an twin-hub attachment that can go over the wheels of a wheelchair and provide said electric locomotion. The device is then steered a bit like a Segway, with the user tilting his upper body in the direction he wishes to travel.

Each of the hubs contains a separate 24-volt motor, powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. These turn the chair’s wheels, propelling it up to a top speed of 20 km/h (12.5 mph). The battery reportedly takes two hours to charge, and offers a range of approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles).

The WHILL project is currently looking for volunteers to test it. There is no word on price or availability.

Video: Dodds Mattress Star Trek Commercial Is Cringe Inducing

By David Ponce

This is a short commercial for this outfit called Dodds Furniture And Mattress in Victoria, BC. The geek angle? It’s got a Star Trek theme. The better geek angle? It’s the most atrocious thing we’ve ever seen.

Here’s to solid production values and to what looks like Starship Serta… (Update: Upon closer inspection, it’s the U.S.S. Dodds)
