This… Now This Is A Grill

By David Ponce

Any grill that features a 20 oz. deep fryer in its center is all right by us. Combining everything that’s wonderful about human ingenuity, the Blacktop 360 grill has a “griddle for frying up breakfast fare like pancakes and sausages, a warming plate to keep everything hot and juicy, and an infra red grill capable of searing steaks and burgers at temperatures up to 650 degrees.” Did we mention it has a deep fryer in the center?

Making sure your arteries remain nice and clogged has never been easier or more convenient. See, the Blacktop 360 folds up and lets itself be carried in a briefcase. When deployed (yeah… deployed), it feeds off the same kind of propane you’d use on a regular BBQ. And it can be all yours for $250.

It’s football season, ain’t it? Ain’t ya got a tailgate party to go to?

Polaroid Releases Z340 Instant Digital Camera

By David Ponce

Polaroid pictures have become somewhat of a relic, a nice reminder of simpler times when cameras had films and being able to hold your shot instantly was the pinnacle of technology. And while film has gone the way of the dodo, being able to hold on to a printed piece of paper immediately after taking a picture still can have some value. At least for those of us old enough to appreciate that value. Polaroid’s gone ahead and made the Z340 in the hopes you’ll agree. Combining ink free printing technology ZINK, the Z340 looks a lot like Lady Gaga’s yet-to-be-released GL30 but is available right now. 14 megapixels, it’s able to print 25 4″ X 3″ pictures in one battery charge.

It’s not the first time Polaroid tries its hand at this; let’s remember the Polaroid PoGo. The Z340 looks more like the cameras of old and the pictures it prints are somewhat bigger than the PoGo. For $300, you too can re-live a digitally remastered remake of your youth.

This Is A Rocking Chair For Two That You Can’t Buy

By David Ponce

It’s sad the things you want to buy are often concepts. Like this rocking chair. Come to think of it, let’s call it an optimistic rocking chair. Why? Because it assumes you have someone to share it with. Come on, now…

But how hard can it be to make? Steel frame, telescoping rod to lock it in place and turn it into a chair… Seems simple enough. And you can spend the rest of your days sitting on one side, wondering how things could be…

Drug Dealers And Adulterers Ahoy: Here’s A Dual-SIM iPhone Case

By David Ponce

If Walter White would have had this particular iPhone case, his wife would have never found out about his drug manufacturing, which would have avoided the divorce, which… Oh, no one cares about Breaking Bad plot lines. What matters is that the Vooma Peel PG920 iPhone case lets you use two SIMs in one phone. While it does add a little bit of bulk to the device, it also has a battery which will add to the iPhone’s own battery life. More importantly, it appears to also unlock your phone. This means you can travel and use prepaid SIMs while still being able to receive important calls on your regular line. Techcrunch tried it out and described the associated application as a little wonky with “the dialing screen [being] a bitmapped copy of the original dialer and the letters and numbers [being] slightly warped.” However everything works as it should. Be advised of the obvious: you will need to have a jailbroken iPhone for this to work.

It’s not out yet, though you can sign up to be notified when it’s ready.

Atmel’s maXStylus Will Supercharge Android Tablets

By David Ponce

Apple may have invented the market and is certainly hogging the lion’s share of it… but that hasn’t stopped the competition from trying to forge inroads. There’s a bunch of Android tablets on the market currently, and while many of these feature styluses (or is it stylii?), things should get kicked up a couple of notches with the forthcoming inclusion of Atmel’s maXStylus controller. Steve Jobs would call using a stylus horsecrap, but there are situations that demand its precision, familiarity and comfort: drawing, writing notes and complex equations are a couple of examples. With the maxStylus mXTS100 you’ll be able to use a 1mm tip stylus with an accuracy of +/- 0.25mm, excellent palm rejection, 256 pressure points sensing, 140Hz refresh rate and more importantly simultaneous finger/stylus input for image and text manipulation (a functionality Atmel calls multiSense). The maxTouch and maxStylus controllers are able to discern between your flesh and the tip of a stylus and open the door to an efficient workflow that feels both natural and precise.

The technology is being demoed to a few leading manufacturers (read Samsung) and should start seeing market inclusion in Q1 2012.

Superbeam USB Earbuds Are Boomless Binaural Recorders

By David Ponce

Let’s break that headline down a bit, shall we? The Superbeam USB earbuds from Andrea Electronics are primarily meant to be used with your computer while doing video calls. They are boomless, which means you won’t have that annoying microphone extend right in front of your mouth, making you look like a failed boy-band member. They are also binaural in that they will pick up your voice from both sides, rendering your sound in stereo. And they’re recorders because, well, they can record. In stereo. Without a boom.

There’s talk of neodymium drivers, noise cancellation, “adaptive beam forming” and other tech things that are meant to justify their $129 pricetag. Oh and an extra $10 for the accessory that would let you use them with a regular solo 3.5mm jack for audio only, since they have two plugs. It’s a lot of money to get rid of a boom but maybe not looking like Justin Timberlake on a conference call is worth that much to someone.
