Unlike the Inspiron line, the XPS from Dell is definitely a step up both in specs and price. But today’s $714 rebates go a long way into making the XPS 17 more affordable. The Core i7-2670M 2.2GHz Quad-core laptop powered by 8GB RAM, 500GB 7200RPM x 2 Hard Drives (total 1TB storage), 1080p LCD & Blu-ray usually sells for $1,613.99. But today it’s a much more reasonable $899. Here’s what one reviewer had to say: “The XPS 17 is an impressive multimedia machine that doesn’t cost the earth. Great performance and usability are joined by a highly impressive features list to make this a competitive package.”
You can add eye-tracking to the ever expanding list of ways in which you can control videogames, after wands, touchscreens, motion detectors and in some cases even brain waves. Tobii is a company that specializes in eye tracking technology and now they’ve put together an honest-to-goodness retro-style 617lbs arcade cabinet that showcases their technology. Powered by Windows 7 Pro 64bit and a Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz processor, EyeAsteroids is a game that uses only one button: “Start”. The Earth stands in the middle of the scree and after a quick calibration, all you have to do is look at an incoming asteroid, pause slightly to shoot and move on to the next target. Avoid shooting power-ups and that’s about it. You can watch the video below to see it in action. Look awesome to us!
Of course, unless you take dives in pools of money daily, this is geared more towards an arcade parlor owner, as each machine costs a reported $15,000. And there will only be 50 made, so get your hands on one quick if you’re interested.
Bacon is a recurring theme around these parts: you got bacon lip balm, tactical canned bacon, bacon jam, bacon muffins… and now… now perhaps the strangest of them all, Bacon Lube, “the world’s first bacon-flavored personal lubricant and massage oil.” It’s water based and it is exactly what you think it is. A joke? Not so much.
Before you start giving meat-flavored massages, we have one small admission to make – baconlube began as an elaborate April Fool’s prank and was never intended to be a real product. But when the joke ended, the emails kept coming. People harassed us via email, in public and in highly inappropriate ways (thanks for that). The waiting list grew to over 3,000 people. Expectations were built.
So who’s responsible for this highly anticipated creation actually coming to life? You are, that’s who.
Yeah so, go get horizontal bacon style, my friends. It’s $12 a bottle.
It may have the top speed of a caffeinated turtle, but YouTube user Prallpratt’s DIY steam-powered RC car is impressive nonetheless. Just watch to see what we mean.
Not much is known about it aside from what you see in the video and in the description. Made in his “Secret Ural Russian Laboratorys”… Whatever. Cool rig though, dude.
Ukuleles can be fun to have and now, maybe even fun to make. Origami enthusiast Brian Chen has created a laser-cut bamboo plywood kit that allows you to assemble a fully working ukulele in what he claims can be as little as half a day. By looking at the rather impressive PDF instructions, we’re thinking somewhere more along the lines of a full weekend, but hey… same ballpark. The result is not only completely functional but also folding for easy transport: the neck can be recessed into the body.
There are two versions, a regular kit for $85 or a “supermini” ukulele kit for $75. And if assembling anything at all is out of the question, you can get both of these already assembled for $375 or $250 respectively, and none of the fun.
$775 after a massive $568 rebate. That’s how much the Dell Inspiron 15R 2nd generation Core i7-2670QM 2.2GHz Quad-core processor configuration laptop would cost you. That’s on top of the 8GB DDR3 memory, 750GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive, 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M graphics card, DVD burner, 720p WLED LCD, 1-Megapixel Webcam, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS. As you know, the Inspiron line of laptops from Dell is its workhorse and as such features good fit and finish, at reasonable prices for a very decent performance.
So here’s the dilemma. Plastic water bottles are convenient because when you’re done, you just throw or hopefully recycle them. They won’t take any room in your bag that way. But if you care about the environment at all, you know that plastic isn’t great. You could of course simply keep reusing a single plastic bottle, but if you’re going to do that, you may as well get yourself a reusable metal bottle, right? Problem with a metal bottle is it too takes a lot of room, even when empty. But what if you could fold your reusable bottle when it’s empty? Enter Vapur.
Made from an internal layer of polyethythene covered with two layers of nylon, the Vapur “anti-bottle” also ships with a carabiner for hanging from bags, just like those aluminum SIG bottles. The bags can be frozen, can carry boiling water and will even stay open when dishwasher-ed.
Like a regular reusable bottle, the Vapur costs $10 for half a liter and they come in several colors and designs.
Arcade machines were for a long time the only way that you could get any gaming done. Home consoles wouldn’t conquer the living room properly until the mid 80′s and for a good period from the mid 70′s onwards, Atari was pioneering the genre. Most of you don’t need the brief introduction to the company, but we’ve come across way too many teens lately who’ve shockingly never heard the name. Sadly, they won’t be able to appreciate the beauty in this docking station for the iPad, a collaboration between Discovery Bay Games and Atari. Just dock your generation 1 or 2 iPad and instantly get access to 99 games, among them classics like the original Pong, or Asteroids. Sadly, the games are not included in the $60 price. A 25 game pack is $1, while $15 gets you the whole library.
