Optoma GT750E Reviewed

By Chris Scott Barr

If there’s one thing almost every gamer wants, it’s to game on the biggest screen possible. For a lot of people, that means hooking up their console or PC to the TV in the living room. Sure, a 40 or 50-inch TV is nice, but wouldn’t it be great if you could take up an entire wall? That’s where projectors come in. Of course, not every projector is meant to be gamed on. Most of them are built for either viewing boring charts, or movies. Well Optoma has a few that are aimed straight at gamers.

The Optoma GT750E is a gaming projector that can display games at a native 720p, and in 3D, no less. It’s also a short-throw projector, which means that you don’t have to set it clear on the other side of the room. In fact, during testing, it only had to sit a mere 50 inches from the screen to produce an 80-inch (diagonal) picture. The real question is whether or not it performs. Head over to GamerFront for the full review, and find out for yourself.

Chuckimals Let You Send Messages Via Stuffed Bird

By Chris Scott Barr

There are a lot of ways to communicate with someone who’s not right next to you. You can call their phone, send them a text message, email, or even a letter. Heck, you can try yelling if you really want to. But wouldn’t it be cool to send them a message by bird like they used to do back in the olden days? Yeah, good luck finding a bird that’ll actually take the job. The closest thing you’re going to get is one of these Chuckimals.

These plush birds won’t fly, but they’ll still carry a short message. Just press the button on the recorder, then chuck it at your intended recipient. Once the bird slams gently into their head, it will repeat your message, not unlike some birds out there. The person can then reply in the exact same manner. You could have entire conversations by stuffed bird! Just $19 gets you your choice between a chicken and a parrot.

Nyan Cat Inspired Easter Egg In Ice Cream Sandwich

By David Ponce

The joys of the intertubes are many and plentiful, and among these are things like Nyan Cat, the wonderful soaring cat with rainbows coming out its behind. So great is he that you can access an Easter egg in the latest version of Android (Ice Cream Sandwich) that features 8-bit Android doing the Nyan Cat, sadly sans the psychedelic music. Get your Nexus out, because here’s how to see it:

To access the treat you’ll have to head into the settings, neatly accessed via the notifications bar in Ice Cream Sandwich. In the “about phone” section you’ll find the details of the Android version. Tap repeatedly on “Android version 4.0.1″ and you’ll get the 8-bit Android with an Ice Cream Sandwich body. Now, to take this to the next level, press and hold on 8-bit Android and he’ll grow, like Mario, into a super Ice Cream Sandwich Android man and start flying across the screen, with his buddies, in a huge Nyan Cat-style onslaught.

If you didn’t follow any of that, just watch the below video.

Fork Knife Chopsticks Are Real, Can Be Bought Right Now

By David Ponce

We remember being pretty impressed a while back over some conceptual chopsticks that made themselves easy to use and doubled as a spoon. But they were only a concept and they’ve just been one-upped.

Practice dining kung fu with these nimble, transforming utensils. This knife and fork set made from reusable, dishwasher-safe plastic comes with a handy rubberized grip and interlocks to become a pair of easy-to-use, spring-loaded chopsticks! Sold individually as a single pair.

At $10 it’s not a bad deal, though we’re not exactly sure at which social event these would be appropriate. A sushi/steak dinner at home?

Well… we want to like them, just like we’re fans of sporks… Something tells us they might not catch on.

mPowerPad Missing Only The Kitchen Sink

By David Ponce

In principle ThirdWavePower’s mPowerPad is a solar charged external battery. It holds 2,500mAh which you can use to power your stuff when you’re off the grid. Several products do this already though, so to stand out a little the company’s gone and thrown in a bunch of other seemingly unrelated features. Get this:

It’s also

    An AM/FM radio
    A reading light
    A flashlight

    An ultrasonic insect repellant!

Of course once you get over the gee-whizness of it, it does make some sense. Like if you go camping. You probably would want to leave it in the sun during the day (6h to a full charge) only to be able to use it once you’re back in the tent at night, charging your phone and giving you some reading light while chasing the mosquitoes away, with maybe some music playing in the background. We like to make fun of tings, but hey, this could be useful!

A few things to note. It’s supposed to be rugged, for outdoors use, so there are no buttons; there is an accelerometer and everything is controlled through tilting the entire device. Watch the below video for more. It’s a reported $80 with shipping starting in January.

How Big Is Gaming? How About $775 Million In 5 Days Big?…

By David Ponce

Yes, that’d be how much Modern Warfare 3 was managed to sell in 5 days. Considering Activision recently announced they sold $400 million worth of retail sales in the first day alone, it’s clear that MW3 will easily eclipse the billion dollar mark. Not only is this impressive, it’s actually mind boggling. The $775 million figure is more revenue, faster than any other entertainment launch, ever. More than any movie, any album, anything.

To date, Activision’s highly lucrative Call Of Duty franchise has grossed north of a cool $6 billion.

By David Ponce

This won’t be the first time we’ve brought you a cool crocheted creation. Only this time, it’s the Death Star. You guys know you’re gonna miss a few meetings at the Stitch and Bitch club to get this done, right?

Best part, the pattern is free to download.

(Disclaimer: no one at OhGizmo! has ever been near a needle. For reals. At least, not a crochet needle. Heck, we don’t even know the difference between crochet and knitting… Alls we know is tis’ a Death Star)
