Hashi Chopstick Aid Should Become Real Product

By David Ponce

At the moment the pictures you see exist simply as the entry of one Daniel Matarazzo into some 3D competition. But we’d like to see this product become a reality and hit the marketplace. It’s called Hashi and is meant to be an aid for using chopsticks. Not only would the plastic device make hooding and using the sticks much easier, but it also features a spoon on the other side. Brilliant! In a way, one could think of this as a Chinese/Japanese/Asian spork.

Now, we found a Shapeways store where Daniel sells some of his custom 3D printed creations, but no sign of this one. Still, it shouldn’t be too hard to get this printed and shipped, would it Daniel?

Incinerating Your Doggy’s Poo Is The New Black

By David Ponce

With a name straight out of boardroom-meeting-gone-bad, the AshPoopie is a device that promises to turn your fresh dog poo into harmless, odorless ash in seconds. The way if would work, if you can’t watch the below video, involves the press of two buttons. Press one and claws open, press the other and they’ll close over the offending feces and swallow them into the stick’s fiery internals. Then some magic involving an “AshPoopie cartridge” and rotating paddles seems to create some kind of reaction that will incinerate the excrement and leave nothing but ash, which you can then dispose of in situ.

There is word that the AshPoopie won’t be unveiled until February, so maybe we’ll have some pricing and availability information at that point.

Carbon Fiber Vinyl On Your Apple Stuff: You Have Taste

By David Ponce

Please note sarcasm. Or not. We’re not sure if carbon fiber’s cool. Is it? How about carbon fiber vinyl appliqué on Apple’s accessories? That cool or just tacky? We’re leaning on the horrible but maybe that’s what all the cool kids are doing these days. All we know is that there’s a website called Carbon Fiber Magic that sells precut vinyl stickers for your Apple mouse, trackpad and keyboard with prices ranging in the low to mid teens.

You should check out the original design on that website, by the way…

Your Kid’s Gonna Love You, Man: This Is Just The Laptop He Wanted!

By David Ponce

Then he’ll grow up and realize what a cheap bastard you were, and hate you forever (worth it!). Seems like a great kind of prank to play on some child to us. See, the iWood Laptop is nothing more than a chalkboard shaped into what looks like a portable computer: two pieces of plywood, a couple hinges and some machining, and presto! The area that would normally have a trackpad is recessed and holds… the chalk, of course.

It’s $55.

Mobisante’s Ultrasound Device Works With A Smartphone

By David Ponce

Notice that the headline mentions a smartphone, rather than “your” smartphone. That’s because Mobisante’s recently released, smartphone-based MobiUS SP1 ultrasound device doesn’t work with just any phone, but the now very dated (already two year-old) Windows Mobile 6.5-based Toshiba TG01 smartphone. Of course that doesn’t make this device any less awesome, since it means that accurate and inexpensive point-of-care diagnostics are now much more mobile. Whereas an injured person would traditionally have to reach a hospital in order to receive potentially life-saving scans, ultrasound scans can now be performed on the field. Images taken with the MobiUS SP1 can then be sent to another physician for a second opinion. Emergency internal surgery could be attempted en-route, preventing a possible bleed out for example.

This device is not cheap at $7,495, but then again it’s aimed at medical professionals.

Deal Of The Day: $860 Off Lenovo E220s 12-Inch Laptop

By David Ponce

Last time we looked at a deal on the Lenovo E220s, only a couple of weeks ago, it was discounted by only $790. We kid, $790 is a lot of money! But $860 is even more, and that’s how much today’s deal is knocking off of this 12-inch, Core i5 (the other was a Core i3!), 4GB RAM, 320GB hard drive laptop. After all is said and done, you’ll get it shipped to your home for $559.

TiVo Premiere Elite Kicks Things Up A Notch

By David Ponce

Even though it’s a dying business, cable TV is still strong enough to support a robust ecosystem of devices like the quintessential PVR: TiVo. And recently the company announced the release of their top of the line machine, the TiVo Premiere Elite. It comes with a hefty 2TB hard drive and 4 (count’em) tuners, which allows you to record 4 shows simultaneously while watching a 5th! The large hard drive will let you store up to 300 hours of HD content, which is twice the amount of the next highest-end machine. What’s more (like other TiVo boxes), the Premiere Elite “offers access to streaming services like Netflix, Pandora, Hulu Plus, Blockbuster On-Demand, and Amazon Instant Video.”

As you may know, the TiVo service isn’t free and is in addition to the cost of the machine itself. So $20/month gets you the service (or a one-time $500 lifetime fee), plus $500 for the Premiere Elite… plus whatever you pay for digital cable.

Remember we said dying model?…
