Oddly enough it’s not the first pair of chopsticks we’ve written about that feature a knife and fork combo on the end of each stick. But what sets the Twin One cutlery apart is that both utensils can be combined to form a set of hinged chopsticks that are easier to use by those who aren’t particularly well versed in eating with two sharpened sticks. Created by DesignWright the Twin One sets are available in green, red or brown finishes and while they appear to be available from Lékué I can’t seem to find specific pricing info on their site.
Coca-Cola took a page from the ‘Go Big Or Go Home’ book to celebrate their 125th anniversary. They hired a company called Obscura Digital to turn all 4 sides of their Atlanta HQ building into a giant 26 story tall projection screen. All in all that amounts to over 200,000 square feet of projection surface. The setup also appears to use multiple projectors on the ground for each side, seamlessly lined up to create one giant animation.
The 2 hour show, which incorporates “transitioning narrative and cinematic pieces” as well as social media elements like photos uploaded to Coca-Cola’s Facebook page, runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night in May from 9 to 11pm. And according to the project’s page on the Obscura Digital website, the CO2 footprint of the event “is offset through Georgia’s Valley Wood Carbon Sequestration Project.”
The good news is that you don’t need Tony Stark levels of funding to get your hands on one of these remote control flying ‘superheros’ which, and let’s be honest here, are most likely as close as any of us are going to get to human flight. But it probably wouldn’t hurt to have his level of technical expertise since they’re only available as unassembled kits. True do-it-yourselfers will probably just opt to buy the PDF plans for $19.95(for both the 75-inch and 57-inch versions) but you can also get the majority of the pre-cut parts in a kit for $295.
The final build weighs in at just 3 pounds and since the motor has ~6 pounds of thrust it can actually do a standing takeoff, like a real superhero would… assuming there are such things as real superheros. And because of its oversized control surfaces it’s apparently very easy to fly, even for novices. Which is a good thing because seeing it careen all over the sky would most likely not strike fear into evildoers.
J.J. Abrams’ Summer blockbuster Super 8 is just around the corner, but as far as I can tell LEGO builder Friedemann Wachsmuth was in no way paid or reimbursed by the film’s marketing team for building this impressive Super-8 film projector. All of the important mechanical bits like the shutter are all built from LEGO Technics, and the only non-LEGO pieces used are the flashlight, lens and film reels. I’m pretty sure the 8mm film isn’t made of LEGO either, that would be really impressive though. And if you feel you haven’t gotten enough of the Hawaii 5-0 theme song this morning, check out the video I’ve included below to see the projector in action.
I know it’s mostly meant for novelty purposes, but I like the potential this fake USB cable has for prankery. The end opposite the USB connector terminates in a plastic nub which can be convincingly attached to anything that the included double-sided tiny adhesive discs stick to. So besides attaching it to hilarious items like a banana, milk carton or even a toddler, you can also attach it to more plausible items like electric staplers, desk phones or other electronics that seem like they should be detected when connected to a PC. But when they’re not, there’s the potential for driving your IT person crazy when they can’t get it to show up and can’t find the proper drivers either.
Assuming they don’t read OhGizmo! or frequent ThinkGeek where it’s available for $4.99 which actually gets you 2 x USB-It cables. And as far as I can tell, it’s not an April Fool’s Day product.
Big corporations, particularly those in competition with each other, don’t always like to play nice together. But in some instances a little co-operation can not only benefit each other, but consumers as well. Such is the case with the Qi wireless power standard which ensures that wireless charging hardware from one manufacturer works with different hardware from another. It also allows companies to finally build electronics with wireless charging functionality already built in, since it’s guaranteed to work with a variety of accessories as long as they’re Qi friendly.
According to Akihabara News, Sharp’s new Aquos f SH-13C is one of the first smartphones to include a Qi compatible built-in battery allowing you to simply plop it down on any Qi-friendly charging pad (it also comes with one) to recharge it. Other less exciting features include a 3.7-inch 890×540 QHD display, an 8.1MP camera and the TapFlow UI running on Android 2.3. As for availability? Given it’s being shown off at press events I think you can safely assume sometime this year.
Today’s modern hippie might find it difficult to procure a 1965 Volkswagen Camper Van, the iconic mode of transport for the flower power movement of the 60′s. But since they’ll probably spend most of their time just sleeping in it anyways given the cost of gas these days, this is a more practical alternative. Designed to look like a perfect 1:1 scale replica of their 1965 Camper Van, this tent is officially licensed by Volkswagen and comes in your choice of red, yellow or blue.
Inside it comfortably sleeps 4 people and is divided down the middle allowing couples to have a little privacy while they’re not making war, and the design even means it’s tall enough to allow people to stand up inside. At ~$486(£299.99) it’s a little pricey as far as tents go, and unfortunately it’s not expected to ship until August 25th at which point your Summer of love is pretty much already over.
Because it requires more than just turning on your DSLR’s exposure bracketing and combining the shots in Photoshop, tilt-shift photography hasn’t become as tired and overused as HDR photography has. (Ugh, awful.) They usually require a bit more skill and investment on the part of the photographer, including a tilt-shift lens like those offered by Lensbaby and Nikon. But now even amateur photographers with a limited budget can try their hand at faking miniature scenes with this NeinGrenze 5000T point and shoot.
As digital cameras go it’s pretty basic, with a 5MP sensor, 2.4-inch TFT LCD display, VGA video capabilities, an SD card slot, fixed focus and no zoom capabilities. But what will certainly have photographers trying to hunt down this basic $150 (MSRP) digicam is the fact that its built-in lens can be switched into a tilt-shift mode, and it even offers in-camera post-processing
effects to make your shots look like they’re from a Lomo. Because let’s face it, vacation photos are far more interesting if it looks like the person had some amazing Gulliver’s Travels-like adventure to Lilliput.
Because of the way the touch sensitivity on the iPad’s screen works, you can’t just thrash away on Garage Band’s drums with a regular set of sticks and expect it to work. And the fact that it’s made of glass is probably something to take into consideration too. So a Melbourne, Australia based company has created a special set of drumsticks with electroconducive rubber tips that can not only be detected by the iPad’s display, but also prevent it from being shattered. Two very important features.
And while they were creating the ‘Stix’ they also went ahead and created the ‘Pix’ which is of course a special guitar pick that features the same electroconducive rubber tip allowing you to strum away on-screen. Both are available right now for $14.95 Australian dollars which works out to about $16 US. However, it’s another one of those products where they have to reach a certain level of funding commitment before it goes into production. If the funding goal isn’t reached, full refunds will be given and the Pix & Stix will forever remain just a novel idea.
