VIPRE Anti-Malware Is An All-In-One Solution Without The Sluggishness

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Sunbelt Software. All opinions are 100% mine.

By David Ponce

The anti-virus/anti-malware space is certainly crowded, with Symantec’s Norton the ubiquitous elephant in the room.  And elephant is a particularly good analogy in this case, as most anti-virus programs suffer from inevitable bloat.  As generations of software pass, it seems as though features are bolted on and on and on, making the final product a resource hog and transforming your PC into a sluggish carton of metal.  Not to mention that products get increasingly complicated, confusing the end user with what to buy by fractionalizing their offerings in an effort to artificially drive up prices.

Well… competition is rarely a bad thing and VIPRE Antivirus software from Sunbelt Software claims to have developed their anti-malware program as a one-stop-shop shield against viruses, spyware, rootkits, trojans and more.

To put their money where their mouth is, Sunbelt Software commissioned a report (which you can download here (PDF)) that concluded “[VIPRE] consumes up to 38% and 45% less memory, and offers up to 2.6x and 3.6x scanning speed compared to Symantec and McAfee.” Also, “VIPRE has been VB100 and ICSA certified, which means you get world-class protection.”

Well, at the very least, VIPRE sounds like it’s worth a try… and if you’re so inclined, why don’t you enter to win a 1-year license (a $30 value)?  Like always, say something in the comments and we’ll randomly select a winner in one week from now.

I hope I win, there aren't a lot of contests i can join because i'm from europe

  • Gomer_Pyle

Well so far it seems there is 50/50 change for me to win a year worth of testing this thing out. And a 100% change that it will go to Europe, unless more people leave comments ;-)

  • krommagnus

I would give this a try for sure. I have been using AVG and it seems to really slow don the loading of applications and pretty much all file access.

Fee based subscription models for AV/AS software isn't worth it to me.
I can download the free AVG, Avast, Microsoft antivirus programs, free Malware software like Malwarebytes and along with spybot or crapcleaner, they can be an effective tool, without incurring the yearly fee based solution. Do they slow down the computer? Possibly, but, with dual core & quad core computers pretty much the norm (my laptop is dual core, home is quad), unless you are into some serious number crunching, or super hard core gaming, is reducing the boot time 3-5 seconds or the I/O a couple of seconds worth the cost in the software?

Considering I'm a security guy, I'm always on the lookout for new software. I'm interested in trying Vipre out and seeing how it stacks up. If we can just get the industry away from signature scanning the world would be a better place!

i'll give it a shot, but if you are being compensated to post this contest, then you need to state that at the beginning. and a 1 year subscription is $40, not $30.

Will be cool it it works. If its as efficient as they say it is, the cpu/memory impact would be huge on large VMware View setups with a VMsafe API. :)

Anything that identifies itself with a venomous snake better be good….

Cool, I love to win a 1 year membership for VIPRE.

  • quacque

my panda subscription expired so i signed up for their free service, but it seems to be non-existent, simply imaginary. So far, though, no viruses or malware . . . which doesn't mean I don't want to try this new approach.
