Announcing The Winner Of The EOS Mixtape Watch

EOS Mixtape Watch (Image property OhGizmo!)
By Andrew Liszewski

Random.orgThanks again to everyone who entered our EOS Mixtape watch contest. We’d love to be able to send each and every one of our readers a watch since in our minds you’re all winners, but we can’t. So once again we turned to the impartial Random.org to decide who gets it.

This time it was commenter #16, Justin Bullock, who said: “I have always wanted one of these “unique watches” like those from Tokyoflash. I like this one way more then any of the watches they have to offer!” So congratulations Justin, your ‘unique watch’ lust has just been quenched!

But those of you who didn’t win don’t have to be too upset about walking away empty handed. Today we started yet another giveaway, this time for a TiVo Premiere! So dry those tears and head on over and leave a comment for another chance to win.

And finally, if you really had your heart set on the Mixtape watch, we just want to remind you that you can still head on over to Shop Adorn, who generously sponsored this contest, and pick one up! You still have a few days if you want it to arrive by Christmas.

It’s been a while since we’ve posted an awesome LEGO creation, which of course is way too long! So here’s Flickr user thire5′s incredibly detailed T-800 Terminator bust complete with glowing red eyes and a display stand featuring piles of tiny LEGO skeletons. Awesome! No other description is provided, but in this case, it’s not needed. And we seriously hope they’re not throwing in the towel at this point. We want to see the whole thing completed!

Deal Of The Day: $313 Off Dell Vostro 230 System With Samsung Monitor

By David Ponce

On the DotD column, we talk a lot about laptops. Second most popular seem to be monitors but it’s fairly rare that we pay attention to desktop systems. You know… “towers”? Yeah, people still use them and it’s nice to see a 41% price drop on the Dell Vostro 230 system. This one comes paired with a 23.6-inch Samsung 2494LW LCD Monitor and usually costs $742. But today $313 of that price melts and leaves you with “$429 + $8 shipping or FREE shipping when customized over $499.” For less than $500, you get:

A 2.8GHz Dual-core CPU, 3GB DDR3 1333MHz memory, 320GB Hard Drive, DVD+/-RW Optical Drive, GMA X4500 graphics, Microsoft Office Starter 2010, Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit OS, Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security Services 15-months subscription and bundled Keyboard + Mouse.

iPhone 4 Speak & Spell Decal

By Andrew Liszewski

One upside to the flat, glass-backed iPhone 4 is that it’s opened up the device to even more customization options. And it’s a good thing I haven’t gotten caught up in this whole iPhone 4 decal trend because I’d probably be applying a new one from Etsy every week. Goodbye retro Sony Walkman, hello retro Speak & Spell!

This design, from Etsy seller blakemedia, turns your iPhone into one of the most awesome electronic kid’s toys of the 80′s. The decal’s also printed on Avery vinyl which features their ‘air egress technology’ which means you’re not going to end up with bubbles after applying it. And while I’m sure this design will be supplanted with something even cooler and even more retro next week, for the time being you can order this one for just $6.99.

Sharkoon X-tatic SX Headset Review

This post is syndicated with permission from GamerFront.net

When you sit down for a nice gaming session, you have some choices for your audio. Specifically, do you want to have it coming out a set of speakers, or running through a headset? If you’re worried about bothering other people with the sound of gunfire and agonizing death, then a headset is an obvious choice. It also gives you the ability to talk with the other people in your party.

We try and test out a variety of hardware, catering to both the budget-conscious and those that want quality at all cost. Today we’ll be taking a look at the Sharkoon X-tatic SX, which falls into the former category. It’s not the first Sharkoon X-tatic that we’ve seen. The last one was an excellent piece of hardware, with a $160 price tag. The SX will set you back less than half of that, but does it deliver less than half of the quality?

I Don’t Know Much About Embroidery, But This Brother Entrepreneur Pro PR-1000 Still Looks Impressive

By Andrew Liszewski

If you’re an embroidery enthusiast, don’t let the fact that this epic stitching machine from Brother will probably end up costing you well north of $12,000. There’s a reason it’s called the ‘Entrepreneur Pro’ after all, because you can probably end up turning a profit with it. It’s got a crazy 10 needle/10 thread color system that’s able to lay down up to 1,000 stitches a minute, and the thread spools each feature a colored LED light so you know exactly where each color needs to go. And the LEDs also serve as status indicators letting you know when a particular color is finished, or if there’s been a thread break. (An embroider’s biggest fear!)

It also sports a hefty 8.5-inch touchscreen LCD for loading and tweaking designs, and while stitching is under way a small video camera located right next to the needle allows you to closely monitor the machine’s progress. The camera can also be used to properly position the item being stitched with the use of a special paper target that’s included. Or, you can even throw a Photoshop-like grid overlay up on screen to help visually position it by hand.

Fossil Takes Another Crack At The Smart Watch

Fossil Concept Smart Watch (Images courtesy Robert Scoble)
By Andrew Liszewski

A few years ago Fossil dabbled in smart watches with a line that featuring Microsoft’s SPOT technology. While I developed a soft spot for them, I was clearly in the minority since they never really caught on. (Admittedly they were a bit bulky and garish.) But the company has learned from those earlier missteps, and are now showing off a new prototype smart watch (well before they plan to introduce it to the market) to drum up support from developers.

Unlike the SPOT watches which worked kind of like an RSS feed on your wrist for weather updates, news, sports scores, etc. Fossil’s new watch connects to Android or Blackberry smartphones via Bluetooth to keep you up to date on your email inbox, caller ID and presumably Twitter and Facebook updates if they want any chance of interesting consumers. The prototype pictured above definitely looks a lot thinner than its SPOT forefathers, but while the pixelated monochromatic LCD display is kind of stylish, smart watches will always be at a functional disadvantage due to their limited screen real estate. But who knows, maybe the second time’s the charm?

TiVo Premiere Could Make An Excellent Holiday Gift, Especially From Us To You!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of TiVo. All opinions are 100% mine.

By David Ponce

Without getting into a lengthy diatribe about the tectonic changes the entertainment industry is (and has been for quite some while) going through in order to deliver its product to us, let me just remind you about the impact of just one of these companies: TiVo.  They basically introduced the DVR to market and changed the way we interact with what we watch.  Gotta go pee?  Pause live TV and do it!  Of course, TiVo’s been around some time and the landscape around their pioneering product also changes, so they’ve been hard at work on their latest generation box, the TiVo Premiere.

The TiVo Premiere is a DVR reloaded.  Not only does it connect to your existing cable it also plugs into your Internet, opening the door to a bunch of new possibilities. “[Possibilities] like instant streaming from Netflix, downloads from Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube videos, music from Pandora and much more—all on your HDTV.”  The Premiere is able to record up to 45 hours of (up to) 1080p HD video and is available for $99, when you sign up for a 1-year service plan of $19.99 a month

Except of course if you happen to read OhGizmo!… and have some luck!  See, TiVo is giving a TiVo Premiere box away, with a year’s worth of $20/mo. service.  Below are the essential highlights from the rules, but we’re linking to the full fineprint below.

Rules: 1) Leave ONE comment on this post.  We’re not doing the comment a day on this giveaway. 2) It’s open to legal US residents 18-years of age or older. 3) The sweepstakes begin at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) on December 16, 2010 and ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on December 23, 2010 (the “sweepstakes period”) 4) This is more of a request of mine: please leave more than “comment!” or “I’m in!” You won’t be disqualified if you don’t, but it makes us editors smile a little when you put in more than an iota of effort into your comments.  These giveaways are, after all, an effort to get you all lurkers to get talking a little more on the site.

SEGA’s Newest Gaming Console Is A Public Urinal

SEGA Toylets (Image courtesy Kotaku Japan)
By Andrew Liszewski

After having left the home console market years ago, SEGA is now going after a new market that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo haven’t dared to touch. Men’s public bathrooms. Dubbed ‘Toirettsu’ which is kind of a play on ‘Toy’ and ‘Let’s', the enhanced urinals feature a sensor target that’s able to detect when it’s being peed on, and the strength of the stream. (Yes, it’s as painful for me to write this as it probably is to read.) This is then translated into mini games displayed on an eye-level LCD display, like putting out fires (of course!) or battling other players by shooting milk out of your character’s nose (double of course!).

The new games also offer the benefits of encouraging guys to actually use the urinals instead of the floor, and they provide restaurants and the like with a place to sell advertising. As you can see in the video below working models have already been exhibited at trade shows, but there’s no official word on when you might see one appearing at your local loo.
