TiVo Premiere Could Make An Excellent Holiday Gift, Especially From Us To You!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of TiVo. All opinions are 100% mine.

By David Ponce

Without getting into a lengthy diatribe about the tectonic changes the entertainment industry is (and has been for quite some while) going through in order to deliver its product to us, let me just remind you about the impact of just one of these companies: TiVo.  They basically introduced the DVR to market and changed the way we interact with what we watch.  Gotta go pee?  Pause live TV and do it!  Of course, TiVo’s been around some time and the landscape around their pioneering product also changes, so they’ve been hard at work on their latest generation box, the TiVo Premiere.

The TiVo Premiere is a DVR reloaded.  Not only does it connect to your existing cable it also plugs into your Internet, opening the door to a bunch of new possibilities. “[Possibilities] like instant streaming from Netflix, downloads from Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube videos, music from Pandora and much more—all on your HDTV.”  The Premiere is able to record up to 45 hours of (up to) 1080p HD video and is available for $99, when you sign up for a 1-year service plan of $19.99 a month

Except of course if you happen to read OhGizmo!… and have some luck!  See, TiVo is giving a TiVo Premiere box away, with a year’s worth of $20/mo. service.  Below are the essential highlights from the rules, but we’re linking to the full fineprint below.

Rules: 1) Leave ONE comment on this post.  We’re not doing the comment a day on this giveaway. 2) It’s open to legal US residents 18-years of age or older. 3) The sweepstakes begin at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) on December 16, 2010 and ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on December 23, 2010 (the “sweepstakes period”) 4) This is more of a request of mine: please leave more than “comment!” or “I’m in!” You won’t be disqualified if you don’t, but it makes us editors smile a little when you put in more than an iota of effort into your comments.  These giveaways are, after all, an effort to get you all lurkers to get talking a little more on the site.

I am embarrassed every day by my parents who still use the VCR for recording programs. We'll be out in public and my mom will say “oh shoot i forgot to switch the tape in the VCR. it's gonna record over 'Desperate Housewives'!” This would save me from that.

I love your site! You guys always have unique gizmos not found on other gadget sites. Keep up the good work! As for the Tivo, I've never had one but only hear good things about it. It would help me get rid of cable once and for all.

I have always wanted a Tivo. This would be a great one to have. Thanks

  • leSenechal

It's great to see TiVo lurch ahead of the competition with the Premier. I have been trying for the past 2 years to convince my parents to get a TiVo and winning this would make their Christmas truly special (although it has to compete with recent news that they are about to become great-grandparents). Thanks for the opportunity to win!

I've been thinking of cutting the cord in the Spring when my DirecTV contract is up and getting a TiVo. This would be awesome.

Love my TiVo, but could definitely use a Primiere, my current one is only a series 2.

  • Andy

Interesting promo from Oh Gizmo & TiVo. Nothing gets users more excited about a product than a free product! So, if I win this, for sure I will pass some good words on this set. LOL

I had to cut the cable but I would love to use the Tivo Premiere to watch streaming movies & TV shows via Netflix.

  • Loramora

Seems like a good Idea! I'd like one!

  • jeffmauch

I've been putting off tivo and dvr for that matter for a long time. I figure it'll be the end of me to be able to have that kind of control over my tv watching. This might just be a good enough excuse to get into the game.

I've had a TiVo since they launched the DSR6000 in 2000 and have had several version since then. It's a great interface and I still love my HD today. I've been tempted by the premier, as I would like a second box in my house, but to many people have reviewed it as buggy and slow. I'll wait it out I guess.

I have never been impressed with Tom Rogers as CEO. He really doesn't get the passion the original TiVo owner had. Under his leadership the company has been slow to respond to market competition and seems to wavering on it's business model. TiVo really needs to innovate to stay ahead of the local cable companies and in the same way keep existing customers. The model is falling apart as the Cable companies catch up with features.

ive never had a tivo before. but this sounds pretty sweet and with the year of service it sounds like something i could use now that i dont have a spare computer for ORB anymore.

I'm new to HDTV programming as we just got our first – a Samsung UN46C8000 3D TV. I immediately requested HD programming from our cable provider. The monthly cost of their DVR paired with the clunky interface (compaired to Windows 7 Media Center, which we used as a DVR previously) has us without an HD DVR at the moment. I'm looking at options for the future and have been comparing the costs of building a Windows 7 entertainment PC, getting a Tivo Premier, and The Moxi HD DVR. The Tivo is entriguing but I'm scared to take the plunge because of the monthly fee. I already have many on-demand options with the Internet@TV apps on the new TV. I'm also somewhat worried about losing Stars OnDemand through my cable box. Winning this contest would be a guilt-free way to take the Tivo plunge.

I have wanted to get a TiVo for a long time. My wife and I even make the TiVo go-faster noises when we operate our DVR. We both prefer the UI on TiVo and have just been waiting for the new ones to come out. We do Netflix streaming, love Pandora, and would be great to access youtube on my tv (especially in sharing video clips when we have friends over).

Being able to record to hard drives is much better than having to record to the old style VHS tape over and over again. I wouldn’t mind replacing it.

It never hurts to have another DVR in the house–it seems like good shows are at least quadruple booked these days!
