TiVo Premiere Could Make An Excellent Holiday Gift, Especially From Us To You!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of TiVo. All opinions are 100% mine.

By David Ponce

Without getting into a lengthy diatribe about the tectonic changes the entertainment industry is (and has been for quite some while) going through in order to deliver its product to us, let me just remind you about the impact of just one of these companies: TiVo.  They basically introduced the DVR to market and changed the way we interact with what we watch.  Gotta go pee?  Pause live TV and do it!  Of course, TiVo’s been around some time and the landscape around their pioneering product also changes, so they’ve been hard at work on their latest generation box, the TiVo Premiere.

The TiVo Premiere is a DVR reloaded.  Not only does it connect to your existing cable it also plugs into your Internet, opening the door to a bunch of new possibilities. “[Possibilities] like instant streaming from Netflix, downloads from Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube videos, music from Pandora and much more—all on your HDTV.”  The Premiere is able to record up to 45 hours of (up to) 1080p HD video and is available for $99, when you sign up for a 1-year service plan of $19.99 a month

Except of course if you happen to read OhGizmo!… and have some luck!  See, TiVo is giving a TiVo Premiere box away, with a year’s worth of $20/mo. service.  Below are the essential highlights from the rules, but we’re linking to the full fineprint below.

Rules: 1) Leave ONE comment on this post.  We’re not doing the comment a day on this giveaway. 2) It’s open to legal US residents 18-years of age or older. 3) The sweepstakes begin at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) on December 16, 2010 and ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on December 23, 2010 (the “sweepstakes period”) 4) This is more of a request of mine: please leave more than “comment!” or “I’m in!” You won’t be disqualified if you don’t, but it makes us editors smile a little when you put in more than an iota of effort into your comments.  These giveaways are, after all, an effort to get you all lurkers to get talking a little more on the site.

As a poor college student who has missed his parent's TiVo over the past four years… I would love this!

I've been a TiVo user since 2002 and I've owned six total – still have two. I haven't picked up a Premiere since the improvements over my Series3 haven't (yet) been enough to entice me. But I certainly wouldn't turn down a free one – it'd let me retire my S2 DVD box too.

First discovered TiVo in 2001 when I went to Best Buy hoping to find a way of recording my 20 hours of primetime for a week's trip overseas. Barely got it setup in time! Have never trusted the IR blaster (even now with Sling) and cannot justify paying for hardware, a TiVo service _and_ a Comcast 'box' in the form of a cablecard. But free? Maybe… or maybe I'd gift it along.

TiVo has always been the model by which other DVR’s are compared.

I've had TiVo for 10 years, dating all the way back to the Series 1. I'd love to get my hands on this new TiVo! :)

  • http://twitter.com/JeffDS3 Jeffrey S

Oh TiVo, how do I love you :)

  • srisinger

You know, I've loved reading OhGizmo! for several years now. I don't comment much, because, frankly, the editors do such a great job of bringing full coverage. Keep it up!

I thank you guys for your posts and info. I check it daily and I share it with friends and family all the time.
    Now give me the TIVO!!!
    LOL ;-)

  • sampleinajar

I have had my series 1 forever. I could use the upgrade. However, I hear Comcast has trouble setting the new one up and that the cable cards don’t work well. Any truth to this?

I'd love a new TiVo Premier. It would fit well in our network of other TiVos. Thanks Oh Gizmo and thanks to Megazone for pointing me here.

I was just looking at these, I just find it hard to pay $20 per month. It is just easier to download the shows.

Free upgrade for my TiVo? Yes please! OhGizmo! does great work and we all really do appreciate it.

An iota is a Greek letter, similar to the Roman i. The word came to mean “a tiny thing” and is also the source of the term “jot”.

I prefer winning TiVos to paying for them, but I've been known to do both.

This commenting interface is not too awesome. Please don't count this one.

I'd be most appreciative for a new Tivo Premiere.

  • RatedArrrrrr

I'd love to have one of these. I had one of the series two a few years ago but had to give it up due to a deployment. I'm now using one of Comcast's horrible DVR's that make me want to pull my (non-existent) hair out!

This would be a great gift to me! I love my pandora and it would sound much better out of the tv stereo system rather than my computer system!

Here's one comment. I hope I win. Just bought my first LCD TV. Had been analogue till last week. :)

I wish I can get TiVo and record this site on it!

Found this site from a link on the Tivo FB page. Seems to be a good find, it's now in my list of tech sites to visit. I would love a Tivo Premiere but can't justify the $$, especially given the mixed reviews the current software/firmware has been getting. ~John

Currently using a Moxi box and satellite unit. Does Netflix through the worthless PlayOn service. This would be much better.

My 3-year old have mastered the remote control of my Time Warner DVR, and he deletes EVERYTHING that do NOT begin with 'MICKEY MOUSE'.

I would like to win this TiVo so that 1) It's a different kind of remote that he would have to learn (if I even let him touch it this time), and 2) I can put this TiVo in my room and leave the TWC DVR as the dedicated 'cartoon server.'

I am so ready to dump my crap time warner DVR and would love this great xmas gift to do so!!! Thanks TiVo and ohGizmo!

  • Paul Horton

I have had older TiVo boxes for years, but recently switched to the DirecTV DVR to get HD. Please, please, please bring me back!!!!

I don't know how I'd survive without my TiVo. I have a Series 2 version, but it's slowly dying, so I need to replace it :(

  • The_GFC

    Dear Santa Gizmo,

I would like a Red Rider BB Gun for Christmas. If you think I will shoot my eye out, a TiVo Premiere will do in its place.

    Thank you!

It would be great to replace an old Series 2 unit with this powerhouse. I love TiVo, but just can't afford to spend the money right now.

Been a TiVo customer for nearly 8 years, with an S2, S2DT and HD all still running great – but a Premiere sure would be nice!

I have had a TiVo since the Series 1 and now our family has a TiVoHD, and we'd love to upgrade to the Premiere which really looks sweet!

  • resiek

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RG6YOOR2M7GDKNCXUKIOEIO7ZM Jeff

My first Tivo was a Sony Direct Tv tuner and Tivo unit. I have had 3 more since then, including my current HD. But having a premiere would be awesome.
