Patch Biodegradable Paper Watches Match (Almost) Any Wardrobe

Patch Biodegradable Paper Watches (Image courtesy Atlanus)
By Andrew Liszewski

You’ll never have to feel guilty about owning a different timepiece to match every outfit in your wardrobe with these Patch watches from Geneva-based watchmaker Atlanus. They’re actually made from biodegradable paper with a special coating that makes them waterproof and tear-resistant so they should survive a few nights out on the town. They’re currently available in 10 blinding colors plus a small collection of prints for ~$34 (€24) a pop, though personally I think all the colored bands should be sold as a single kit with a removable LCD display that can be swapped into each of the bands as needed. But I understand there’s a profit to be made, which in this case is probably around $33.52 for every watch sold.

iPhone 4 Bone Collection Speaker Amp

Bone Collection iPhone Portable Amplifier, Horn Stand (Images courtesy Cyberguys.com)
By Andrew Liszewski

Technically this horn amp is a ‘portable’ speaker solution for your iPhone in that you don’t need a team of roadies or tractor trailers to bring it with you, but on the other hand you can forget about cramming your phone in your pocket while this unique accessory is attached. It’s made of silicone and promises to boost your iPhone’s speaker by 12 decibels without draining the battery whatsoever. It also doubles as a stand working in a landscape or portrait orientation, and is compatible with every iPhone that’s been released. $24.99 available in black, green or light brown.

Yes, Virginia, This Is Real – The Holiday Decorator’s Toolvest

The Holiday Decorator's Toolvest (Image courtesy Hammacher Schlemmer)
By Andrew Liszewski

Halloween’s still a week and a half away but I’m sure the residents of that ‘Christmas lights’ house in your neighborhood, you know the one, are already hard at work planning and decorating for this year’s festivities. And since there’s already vests designed for fishermen, photographers and other trades, why not one designed specifically for “holiday lighting professionals” as Hammacher Schlemmer politically refers to them. Obsessed also works.

The vest is adorned with pockets of all shapes and sizes, zippered and open, for holding tools, twist ties, bulb testers and whatever else a ‘lighting professional’ might need. But the real piece de resistance is the storage pack on the back which can hold up to 20 strings of lights, so you don’t need to keep climbing up and down a ladder to get another strand. But unless you’re making a living from doing this, or are desperate to outdo your neighbor, you might be hard pressed to justify the $79.95.

Replace The Glass On Your iPhone 4 With Metal

By Chris Scott Barr

Not long ago I finally upgraded to the iPhone 4. It looks and feels great, but I do worry about the glass on the back. There have been plenty of people who have dropped their phone, only to have the back shatter (as opposed to the front, thankfully). The obvious solution is to use a case, which is probably a good idea anyway. But if you’re determined to carry around a bare phone, there is another way to keep the back from shattering.

The idea is to essentially replace the entire back of your phone with something other than glass. One company is offering a brushed metal cover, which will take the place of your phone’s glass. It does have a lens to cover both the camera and flash, so no worrying about exposing those. The best part is that the replacement is only $14. All you need to do is the labor of actually replacing the back.

Deal Of The Day: Dell Alienware m11x Gaming Laptop For $999

By David Ponce

I’m sure you’re all well aware that Alienware stuff is three things: 1) Good for gaming, 2) have distinctive looks and 3) are usually expensive. This time around, you’re looking at a $150 coupon on an $1,150 machine, bringing the price down to a grand. For this, the 11.6-inch m11x comes with a Core i5 processor and 4GB DDR3 ram, 320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive, Bluetooth 2.1, 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M graphics, 802.11n WiFi, Webcam and more. A reviewer over a Kotaku seemed pretty impressed with the machine.

Nevermind the Core 2 Duo in the image. While you can get it configured with that processor, the deal I just mentioned was for the Core i5 model.

Logitech G930 Wireless Gaming Headset Reviewed. Verdict: A Kickass Wireless Upgrade of the G35

By Ian Chiu

If there is one area of the computer industry that is darn near recession proof it is the gaming peripheral niche and many companies are aggressively pursuing these elusive consumers called “gamers”.  While not exactly new to this market niche, Logitech is certainly doing everything they can to grab an even bigger slice of this pie.  It seems every time you turn around Logitech has released another newer and better product with this niche in mind!  Their latest and greatest offering is the G930 wireless gaming headset.

On paper, these virtual 7.1 gaming headphones are not just a mere wireless “upgrade” of the G35 cans, but boast much needed refinements on the software side of things.  The most notable addition to the software is its ability to allow tweaking each of the virtual speakers. This really makes a day and night difference for hardcore gamers who wish to adjust everything to their preference. The G930 cans will last for 9 hours before they need to be recharged with its micro-USB cable. The headset’s dual antenna setup is another killer feature that provides virtually interference-proof wireless surround sound over range of 40 feet. The game compatibility has also been improved immensely. There’s one caveat though: the $140 price tag. Everything USB has the full review.

Book Table Light

By Andrew Liszewski

If you miss buying hardcover books because of that fancy new Kindle don’t be too upset. You can kill two birds with one stone by ordering one of these Book Table Lights. Not only does it have the look and feel of a real book, but it will also come in handy if you want to see your Kindle’s e-ink display at night! The bulb is hidden and diffused by the accordion folding ‘pages’ but is still easily accessible for changing, and really the only catch is the $210 price tag since each one is hand-made in London.

Biometric Vehicle Ignition

By Andrew Liszewski

Not surprisingly the SkyMall website doesn’t go into a lot of details about this after market biometric ignition system. Yes, we understand that all you need is a fingerprint in order to be able to start your car, but with a $699.95 price tag, not including installation which is going to require cutting a hole in your dashboard, I’d like a few more specifics. Like how many users does the reader support? How is it configured? Is there some external display that also has to be mounted somewhere on your dash? What happens if I just lost all of my fingerprints in an industrial acid accident? Is there a secret override or am I going to have to take a cab home from work?

It’s probably one of those things you’d want to buy and have installed at your dealership, instead of ordering it as an impulse buy while waiting for your flight to take off from O’Hare.
