Precer Bioracer Runs On Wood Pellets

Precer Bioracer (Image courtesy Biomass Authority)
By Andrew Liszewski

It looks like a rather sporty version of an ATV, but the Bioracer concept from the Swedish Precer Group is actually a proof of concept that the company’s biomass-based powerplants can power more than just a building. The vehicle’s 16HP electric motor is powered by a “24 to 96 volt, 100 to 400 amp-hour battery pack”, depending on its configuration, which is charged by a Stirling engine running on burning wood pellets. At full capacity the batteries can power the vehicle for up to 3 hours, and every 3 to 6 pounds of burned wood pellets provides enough charge for up to 10 miles of driving. It’s probably not going to supplant the Prius or even the Volt (even with recent revelations) anytime soon, but it’s nice to see alternate energy options being developed.

Giant LEGO Brick Storage Containers

By Andrew Liszewski

Goodbye Rubbermaid! Your containers have served me well over the years as a catch-all place to store miscellaneous crap, but there’s no way you can compete with these LEGO brick plastic storage containers. Available in medium (~$27) and large (~$41) capacities from A Place For Everything they’re an officially licensed LEGO product for STORE, and like the regular sized versions, can be stacked and assembled into gigantic creations. I mean seriously, who will ever need to buy shelves, dressers or even a bed again when they can just build their own from giant LEGO bricks?

And in case you were wondering, yes, that giant disembodied LEGO minifig head is also available as a storage container for ~$32.

Sagemcom Sixty Retro Yet Modern Looking Phone Almost Makes Me Wish I Had A Landline Again

Sagemcom Sixty (Image courtesy Le Journal du Geek)
By Andrew Liszewski

I can’t say I’ve been caught up in the retro trend that Mad Men has inspired (probably attributed to never seeing a single episode) but I likes what I likes and this Sixty phone from Sagemcom strikes a nice balance between retro and modern. It will be available exclusively from Orange in France for ~$125 (€89.90), hence the color, and the retro stylings are countered with such modern features as a wireless handset, built-in answering machine, dot-matrix LCD display, 150 entry phonebook and 10 different ring styles.

USB Adapter Cable For The Game Boy Printer

I don’t know where you’re going to find a readily available supply of 3.8cm wide thermal paper, but if you’ve ever had the hankerin’ to print directly to your Game Boy Printer from your PC, this USB adapter cable will bridge the technological gap. It’s available from Furrtek.org for ~$17 (€12) and they claim the cable will also soon be able to download photos from the Game Boy Camera, just like Mad Catz’s old parallel port cable let you do.

Talk On Your Phone Too Much? Get An Ear Cushion For It

By Chris Scott Barr

Today is just full of brilliant ideas for the iPhone. Though technically, this one works on many phones (they just chose the iPhone to demonstrate how even a good-looking phone can be made hideous), not just Apple’s powerhouse. This blight on your eyes is called the Earos, which apparently makes your phone more comfortable to hold against your ear.

I don’t know about you, but it takes an awful lot of talking on my phone to actually make my ear start to hurt. Which leads me to believe there is a cheaper alternative that will provide you with an even more comfortable experience. I like to call it “don’t talk on the phone so damn much.” Seriously, if you talk on the phone for so many hours each day that you’re thinking of adding a giant toilet seat-shaped accessory to your (now non-)mobile phone, I think you might want to re-think what you’re doing with your life. If you do actually want one of these things, you’ll have to wait until it gets out of the concept stage.

Add Multitasking And A Camera To Your iPad

By Chris Scott Barr

There are some features missing from the iPad that would have been really nice to see. Things like a camera, and true multitasking might have made it a “must-buy” product for some people. Thankfully, there is a solution to this. In fact, you can add a 3G connection (without paying extra), a pair of cameras and even the ability to make phone calls on AT&T’s cellular network. All you need to do is attach an iPhone to your iPad.

Seriously, someone actually did this. I’m really not sure why you would ever want to do something this stupid. I can’t see any real benefit to stacking one on top of the other, and it looks plain silly. Maybe if you were tethering the two things together somehow, so you could share data, it would be interesting. This, however, is something you should never do.

Ultrasone Edition 10 $2,750 Headphones

By David Ponce

It’s making-fun-of-audiophiles-time again! We never cease to be amused by what passes as acceptable marketing material when trying to justify astronomic price tags of some high end audio equipment. Take these $2,750 Edition 10 headphones from Ultrasone:

[They feature] open-back ear cups with galvanic Ruthenium plating and a Zebrano wood inlay, Ethiopian sheepskin leather ear cup pads, Titanium-plated 40mm drivers, silver-plated OFC 99.99% pure copper wires with Kevlar casing, S-Logic Plus technology…

We actually reviewed a set of Ultrasone headphones way back in 2006 and found them to be a little meh. Then again, they were only a $150 model and certainly didn’t have any of that douchetastic look to them, so perhaps are different?

Full press release and links after the break.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Sports “Pr0n” Button

By David Ponce

I have a Romanian friend who’ll get a kick out of this. See, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is a great product and everything, but what really sets it apart is a snazzy “Porn” button. While awesome (and incredibly juvenile… lulz), pressing it won’t take you, well… where you might think. In fact, a closer inspection of the above picture might alert you to the fact that this particular Galaxy Tab is not in English. In fact, it is set to Romanian, and in that language the word “Start” translates to “Pornire”. The device shortens it, and young adults everywhere giggle a little.
