These Coffin-Shaped Cigarette Packs Will Be Really Appreciated

Coffin-Shaped-Cigarette-Packaging_1

Coffin-Shaped-Cigarette-Packaging

By David Ponce

We’re sad this is just a concept. This product should be made right now. And anyone that wants to send the smokers in their life a little message should buy them and give them as presents. Or the really cynical smoker can buy them himself. Either way, we’re totally seeing a market for these.

The design is from R.J. Reynolds Ukraine. Yeah, we wondered about that name too and whether it was some kind of pun. But unless it’s all an elaborate joke, it seems to be the work of one Richard Joshua Reynolds. We’re getting imaginative here and smelling the trademark infringement lawyers in the air already if this ever takes off…

Disposable Flasks Seem Perfect For The Game

disposable-flask

By David Ponce

We understand sport venues’ desire to charge outrageous prices for their alcoholic beverages. Just as much as we hope they’ll understand our desire not to get gouged just because we want to watch a game live. Bringing your own booze is a great alternative! Of course that’s all fun and games until security catches you and forces you to throw your flask away. It’d be much better if it was one of these cheap, ($15 for a 3-pack) disposable, re-usable flasks.

These 7.5 oz. reusable foil pouches are portable, freezable, pocketable, and easily disposable, and feature airtight plastic lids that won’t leave tell-tale leakage marks on your clothes.

You realize, we’re sure, that the item’s usefulness is not limited to sports venue. Here are other suggestions: funerals, your kid’s play, church, a breakup dinner, dance club…

Autom Will Help You Lose Weight, Says Not Eating Works For Her

Introducing Autom™ from Erica Young on Vimeo.

By Evan Ackerman

We first met Autom two years ago, back when she was a resident of the MIT Media Lab. Since then, she’s been significantly redesigned and her parent company, Intuitive Automata, is almost ready to unleash her upon the overweight world. Autom is sort of like your own personal weight loss coach, except she doesn’t annoy you by being human and in better shape than you are. Instead, she simply tracks your eating and exercise habits and talks to you about your daily progress. She’s able to figure out what works best for you and what doesn’t, adapting to your needs as they change. And she does a good job, apparently: people using Autom to help with their weight loss will keep to a diet and exercise routine for twice as long as people using more traditional methods…

DLO WallDock iPhone & iPod Charger

DLO WallDock Charger (Images courtesy DLO)
By Andrew Liszewski

Apple has managed to get the power adapter for their iPods and iPhones pretty small over the years, but if you still hate dealing with white cables you might want to consider DLO’s WallDock. ($24.99) It plugs into any wall outlet and thanks to a pivoting dock connector and cushioned top, your iPhone or iPod simply has to lean back against the wall and rest while its battery is recharged. Of course the design means the WallDock can’t really be used with a power bar, so if that’s all that’s available you’ll just have to suck it up and go back to using your sync cable.

FriiBoard Improves The Wii Fit’s Balance Board

FriiBoard (Image courtesy Swiit Game Gear)
By Andrew Liszewski

To say that gamers haven’t really been blown away by the new Tony Hawk Ride game and its skateboard controller is an understatement. And while the Wii Fit balance board can be used with snowboarding, skiing and skateboarding games, it also lacks a certain something, which I think the FriiBoard remedies.

It’s nothing more than a curved plastic base that attaches to the underside of the balance board allowing it to rock slightly in all directions. Not enough to make balancing difficult, but more than enough to make most balance board compatible games more entertaining and slightly more realistic. I would almost call it a must-have add-on if you already have Wii Fit at home, but the $45 price tag is a bit steep for a piece of plastic. (Available soon!)

LA Auto Show 2009: Concept Cars

DSC_2673t

By Evan Ackerman

You can have your exotic cars, and you can have your eco-friendly cars, but no, you can’t have concept cars. Not yours. These flights of imagination are never for sale, are rarely street legal, and often don’t work at all. But damn are they cool looking, and their very unobtainability and uniqueness make them that much more interesting.

OhGizmo was at the LA Auto Show yesterday, and we’ve got a bunch of pictures of concept cars for you from the likes of Honda, Audi, and BMW. Check out the non-gallery plus links to high res versions of the pics, after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

MST3Shades, If Anyone Was Wondering What To Get Me For Christmas

MST3Shades (Images courtesy gianteye)
By Andrew Liszewski

The world would be a far more entertaining place if Joel, Crow and Tom were always around providing endless running commentary on life’s daily happenings, but with a heaping spoonful of imagination these MST3Shades could be the next best thing. Sure, you’ll have to make up all the jokes yourself, and odds are they’ll pale in comparison to what used to come out of the Satellite of Love, but as long as you’re wearing these clever acrylic glasses you can pretend your whole life is one long, terrible B-movie worthy of mockery.

You can download a technical drawing of the MST3Shades created by ‘gianteye‘ on Thingiverse, but the laser cutter and 1/8″ acrylic you’ll need to supply yourself.

$12,000 Lionel Train Diorama Is Kind Of Disappointing

The Genuine Lionel Store Display Diorama (Images courtesy Hammacher Schlemmer)
By Andrew Liszewski

I don’t know about you, but when I hear mention of a $12,000 model train diorama I expect to see a layout filling an entire basement, not something that barely fills a dining room table. But apparently that’s all 12 G’s will get you from Hammacher Schlemmer. The diorama, which was designed by Lionel’s own display builder and modeled after a 1950′s department store window setup, features 36 feet of O-gauge track, various models like buildings, water towers and a mountain with tunnel, and comes with a New York Central Flyer locomotive complete with 6 passenger/stock cars and a caboose.

It’s a nice idea if you’re looking to get involved with model railroading and don’t have the patience or time to build everything from scratch, but for $12,000 I’d demand a setup that can at least deliver beverages and snacks directly to my couch.

SD Cards To Triple In Speed Next Year

sd_card-620x238

By Chris Scott Barr

If you’re not happy with the transfer rates of your current SD cards, you’ll be happy to know that they are once again getting a speed increase. The new standard, currently bearing the incredibly boring name of ‘Specification Version 4.00′, is set to launch next spring. As of now, the maximum transfer rate is 104Mbyte/s. The 4.00 spec will effectively triple that speed.

The new standard will require extra pins in order to achieve the greater speed. (The above chart is especially descriptive regarding this.) Thankfully the newer cards will still work in older devices, albeit at a slower speed. I’m still waiting to see a 2TB card, which has been the theoretical maximum size since the SDXC standard was announced earlier this year.
