3G4 Is Supposedly An N64 iPhone Emulator

By Andrew Liszewski

Ok, let’s get something straight here. The video you see above is supposedly the first beta footage of the 3G4 app which is purportedly the first N64 emulator for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It could very well be nothing more than a cleverly compiled video playing back, but the prospect of maybe being able to play Goldeneye on my iPhone one day is more than enough to make me want to believe it’s real. And if it is real, it will be all the more impressive since it’s claimed that 3G4 was actually developed by a 14 year old programmer.

Capstone CMT-380 Hybrid Supercar Uses Jet Engine, Gets 80 MPG

car2

By Evan Ackerman

Until there are practical and cost effective ways of transferring and storing large amounts of electricity quickly and efficiently, hybrid cars are going to have to depend on alternate power sources that can extend their range to be viable for consumer use. Cars like the Chevy Volt and the Fisker Karma use traditional gasoline engines to recharge their batteries on the go, but a company called Capstone has decided that it would be a way, way better idea to use a microturbine generator instead of a piston engine, which is exactly what they’ve done on their CMT-380 supercar. And by microturbine generator, they’re pretty much talking about a jet engine.

Add USB Ports To Your Wall Outlets

truepower

By Chris Scott Barr

How many gadgets do you have that recharge via USB? Sure, you could just plug them into your PC, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a wall outlet that accommodated your recharging needs? Well now you can have just that, without the need for a plug-in adapter. Check out this TruePower UCS power socket. It uses the same connections as your existing outlets, so it’s just a matter of swapping one out for the other.

At $10 a pop, it might be worthwhile to invest in a couple. Unfortunately you’ll have to wait until sometime next year for it to ship.

Samsonite Trolley Luggage Features A Built-in Scooter

Samsonite Trolley Luggage (Images courtesy STYL.in Rooms)
By Andrew Liszewski

I have to agree with the chaps at CrunchGear who’ve declared this the “greatest luggage of all time.” The Trolley from Samsonite and Micro Mobility features a built-in folding scooter that’s perfect for either killing time at the airport, or navigating an ocean of booths at a trade show. When collapsed the Trolley appears to be carry-on friendly (it’s actually a pretty small suitcase) but unfortunately I’m not entirely sure how it’s steered… or where it’s available… or for how much…

LEGO Brick Mouse

By Andrew Liszewski

Remember that excruciatingly painful feeling of accidentally stepping on a LEGO brick in bare feet as a kid? Well I imagine you’ll be feeling the same thing in your hand after using this LEGO brick-shaped mouse after 7 or 8 minutes. But what it’s lacking in ergonomics and comfort it makes up for with minimal features including left and right mouse buttons, a scroll wheel and an optical sensor. ~$32 from Curiosite.

PhotoFast microSD USB Flash Drive

PhotoFast microSD USB Flash Drive (Image courtesy Geek Stuff 4 U)
By Andrew Liszewski

Remember the PhotoFast compact flash adapter that would accept up to 4 microSD cards, allowing them to be used in a CF-only DSLR? Well the company’s JBOD USB Flash Drive is the exact same idea. It uses the JBOD or ‘just a bunch of disks’ protocol to make up to 4 microSD cards appear as a single USB flash drive when attached to your PC, and while the microSD cards can all be different sizes, the total supported capacity maxes out at 64GB. ~$64 from Geek Stuff 4 U.

DIY Project Brings Harry Potter Clock To Life

magic-clock

By Chris Scott Barr

Back before the whole world went nuts about Twilight there was another set of books/movies which drove tweens wild. I am of course speaking of Harry Potter. Sure, there are still a pair of movies to be released, but I’d say the excitement has died down considerably. That didn’t stop one creative individual from crafting a magical artifact from the Potter universe using muggle technology.

The Weasley family had a peculiar clock which instead of telling time, informed you where each individual was located. So how would one get a timepiece to display such information? Through the magic of Twitter, of course.

2009 LA Auto Show: Eco Cars

By Evan Ackerman

Your hybrid is great and all (never mind that it’s arguably more wasteful of resources than my old Volvo), but it’s no longer cool enough to just have a hybrid. Everybody is producing hybrids now, and they’re just not making enough progress where progress needs to be made. There are a few companies, though, who are actually stepping up and taking a risk on vehicles that don’t use gas engines as their primary means of propulsion. Check them out, after the jump. Retro Thing Releases Three Limited Edition Pixel Tees

6a00d83452989a69e20120a6f1060c970b-800wi

By David Ponce

Our old pal James Grahame from Retro Thing recently released three T-shirt designs. This is what he has to say about them:

After months of top secret R&D, we’re proud to unveil three limited edition Retro Thing shirt designs. They were created pixel-by-pixel on a curmudgeonly old Atari 130XE, ensuring maximum authenticity and the most convoluted workflow since the Apollo missions.

Each pixel tee is screen printed on a heavyweight 6.1oz Gildan Ultra Cotton shirt in Madison, Wisconsin by a genuine American named Rick. There’s no digitally printed tomfoolery here, nor are our shirts made by 3-week-old kittens slaving at gunpoint in North Korean sweatshops.

We’re big fans, so head over there before December 8th to order yours, for all of $14.
