If you haven’t accepted the fact that laptops come with certain limitations compared to a full-sized desktop PC, then be prepared to carry a bag full of accessories and add-ons wherever you go. Or, you could spend a bit of money and just grab this new docking station from Targus which isn’t terribly large, but is packed full of useful features.
It connects to your laptop via a single USB port, but expands that to an additional 4 ports with 2 being ‘always on’ even when the laptop is shut down. Of course that means the dock needs its own power supply, but if you’ve picked one up then portability clearly isn’t your priority. The dock also provides a DVI connection using DisplayLink’s technology and can support monitor resolutions up to 2048×1152 as well as additional audio connections and an ethernet port. And finally, you can stash the thing underneath your laptop making it function as a riser to improve airflow and cooling, but obviously it’s the previously mentioned features that will justify its $159.99 price tag.
Graffiti that does nothing but vandalize sucks, but graffiti that takes boring advertisements and makes them awesome is always appreciated. And that’s exactly what German artists ‘Mr Talion , Epoxy , Baveux and Kone‘ have done by partially covering uninspired billboards with Doom-like graphics, making them far more entertaining, and a touching tribute to a classic game of yesteryear.
Calling this gadget a “mobile cinema” might be doing it a favor, but it does incorporate a DVD player, some speakers, and a small projector. So I suppose technically, it is what it claims to be. But only just barely… You’ve got two 1-watt speakers and a 13 lumen, 480 x 240 pixel image. I mean, this cell phone has a better projector inside it, and the crappiest projector ever is less crappy than this one. Maybe if it ran on batteries, or included some inputs, or even a USB port so that you could use it as an external DVD drive or something… But no, all you get is a microphone jack so that you can use it for karaoke. Karaoke.
KARAOKE.
Alright, there is one reason you should get this: for your kids. They will appreciate the cartoonish buttons and focusing handle, and when they inevitably break this projector (or it commits electronic suicide after one too many viewings of Happy Scrappy Hero Pup), you won’t have to feel too badly since you only blew $260 on it.
Lately Verizon has gotten pretty bold with their ads, specifically targeting AT&T’s poor coverage. Of course AT&T didn’t take to kindly to their name being tarnished, and threw quite the fit over it. Now that a little time has passed, they’ve composed themselves and decided to take a new course of action. Rather than complain about Verizon picking on them, they’re trying to actually fix the core issue.
iPhone users can now download the free ‘AT&T Mark the Spot’ app, which will let you report to the phone giant whenever you have connection issues. AT&T will then take the information and use it to determine what parts of their network are in need of an upgrade.
As someone who spent 2 summers working in a lumber yard, I can attest to the fact that forklifts can indeed be fun, even if you’re just stacking empty pallets to kill an hour before your shift is done. But most of that fun is lost when the forklifts are barely large enough to lift a pad of Post-It Notes, like the remote controlled versions in this Forklift Challenge game.
The goal is to apparently get all of your crates and pallets from the ‘storage’ area to the ‘loading bay’ before your opponent does. There is plenty of room for sabotage, which could be minutely entertaining, but nothing I can say will make the game seem as exciting as all the thrills and spills featured in this video of it being played!!
Now that’s how you sell a product! $34.95 from Solutions.
If you’re too tired in the morning to operate such an advanced piece of modern technology as a coffee maker, but the only thing that will wake you up is a hot cup of joe, then I’ve got 2 1/2 words for you, Speak n’ Brew. From Primula Products the 10 cup coffee maker is apparently the world’s first to recognize voice commands that can be used to set the clock or program the brew time. And since focusing on dials, buttons or an LCD display can be quite a chore after you’ve rolled out of bed, the Speak n’ Brew will even talk back to you, letting you know when the coffee’s ready or confirming your audible commands. $79.99 from Primula’s website.
A traditional in-ear Bluetooth device is pretty much useless when it comes to activities that require you to wear a helmet, like say, riding a motorcycle. But BlueAnt’s Stereo F4 Interphone kit features a weatherproof Bluetooth device that sits on the outside of a helmet, with a set of thin headphones and a mic that sit inside. The F4 pairs up to 8 different Bluetooth devices allowing you to make and receive calls on 2 different phones, hear audio directions from a GPS navigation device and even listen to music streamed over A2DP from an MP3 player.
BlueAnt claims the microphone still works at speeds up to 110mph, and if you’re riding with a buddy the device also includes a bike-to-bike intercom mode allowing you to keep in touch up to a distance of 1,640 feet. Available now from the BlueAnt online store for $225.
If there’s a more effective way to sell soap to a hardcore gamer than by making it look like an NES controller, and making it smell like Mountain Dew, I haven’t seen it. Seriously, the only other way it could be even more appealing is to make it so gamers could skip showers altogether by entering the Konami code on it, and I don’t see how that’s going to happen. So just pick up a 4-pack of these for $34 from ‘DigitalSoaps’ on Etsy.
Lets say you’re in the kitchen, and you’ve decided to heat something up in the microwave. You’ve got two, maybe three minutes to kill, what do you do with the time? Chances are you’ll just stand there staring at your food as it spins round and round. Well wouldn’t it be cool if you could watch a quick YouTube clip to pass the time? Soon you may be able to do that very thing, right from your microwave.
The Castoven is a working prototype microawave which features a built-in 10.4-inch LCD screen in the door, along with a pair of speakers. When put something I to cook, it finds a random YouTube clip (of a similar length of time) and plays it while your food is cooked. It does however, currently require you to have it hooked up to a computer to work. It’s possible that they may be able build one directly into the unit in the future. No word on whether they plan on releasing this to the public for sale, or if it will simply be another concept gadget to tease us. (Video after the jump.)
