Being a gamer, I tend to watch the release of new video cards rather carefully. Well in case you missed it, AMD released the first DirectX 11 cards last month. This allowed them to take the crown for fastest card and left Nvidia in the dust so to speak. Anyone that’s paid attention to these releases over the years will know that Nvida won’t be far behind with their own DX11 cards. In fact, we now know that they will be hitting stores before the end of the year.
Nvida has stated that they will have their latest cards, dubbed the GT300 out in time for ‘Black Friday.’ That gives AMD a 2 month head-start into the market. The big question is whether or not people are going to jump on AMD’s offerings, or wait to see what kind of performance the new GT300 cards show. Either way, it’s going to be an interesting holiday season.
It’s hard to find a geek that grew up in the 80′s/early 90′s that doesn’t love the Transformers. Thanks to the fact that the Robots in Disguise are celebrating their 25th anniversary (oh, and those two movies) we’ve seen a huge influx of transforming merchandise. Of course, some of the coolest pieces have come not from Takara/Hasbro, but rather from fans of the series. Back in July we showed you someone’s custom-built Devastator, which unlike the movies, stayed true to the original design. Well here’s another custom work for you to feast your eyes on.
Yes, this Optimus Prime is based off of the second movie, which may turn some of you off to it. However, the sheer level of detail here should be enough to give you pause. Before you ask, yes it transforms. It’s actually based on the TFTM 07 Leader Class Optimus Prime figure, which does take away some of the appeal. However, the crafter replaced a number of pieces and hand-painted it to reach the more realistic level of detail. If you absolutely must have this piece, you can find it on eBay. The bidding is currently at $730, so you’d better have some deep pockets.
Joby has made some of the coolest little tripods for your cameras over the past few years, and now they’re bringing it to the iPhone. Their latest offering comes in the form of a soft-touch case for your iPhone 3G/3GS. The case features a locking clip which can be used to attach a set of Joby’s famous flexible, bendable legs.
As an added bonus, the Gorillamobile for 3G/3GS also has a universal camera adapter (1/4” tripod screw). This means that your new tripod isn’t just limited to your iPhone. If you have a regular camera, it can be attached as well. If you take a lot of pics with your iPhone, then this $40 tripod might be worth the investment.
I wouldn’t exactly consider myself part of Diesel’s target demographic, but they’ve definitely won me over with this set of turntables & analog audio gear print bedding. I mean look at it, the pillow shams even line up to form a mixer between the two turntables. All I have to say is goodbye Hannibal, Murdock, Faceman and B.A. because Andrew has finally found some new bed sheets.
The Turntable bedding is part of the company’s ‘Diesel Lifestyle Home Textile Collection’ and is apparently available from Diesel retail stores, though I have no idea for how much.
I have a fondness for pilot’s watches with their complicated faces full of dials and gauges, but what could be cooler than having a machmeter strapped to your wrist too? Well the Hamilton Khaki X-Mach lives up to its name, allowing you to calculate the mach speed you’re traveling, even though most of us will probably never pass 1.0.
And unfortunately it’s not like you just push a button on the watch and one of the dials will jump to your current mach speed. (As I understand it.) You first need to manually calculate the speed of the plane (or rocket car) and then feed the watch that info along with other speed related data. It actually sounds like something only pilots would know how to do, but it doesn’t make having that feature sound any less cool. $1,125 in black with a leather crocodile pattern & carbon fiber strap.
It might look like nothing more than a Kleenex box-sized humidifier, but this Odor Remediator from Hammacher Schlemmer ($199.95) creates an odor-eliminating mist of microdroplets that are 100 times smaller and 1,000,000 times lighter than what you’d get from an aerosol can. That allows the microdroplets to remain airborne for up to 14 hours, giving them time to drift into every corner of a room, replacing unpleasant smells like smoke with slightly less unpleasant smells like pine, lavender-herb or citrus-mint.
I’m all about having a kick-ass case for my gaming rig. I like having something to show off that not only look cool, but is easy to work with in terms of upgrades. I’ve owned and reviewed quite a few different cases over the years, and I have to say, this new Level 10 from Thermaltake tops them all.
The case was designed by BWM Designworks USA, where they were obviously thinking outside the box. Or rather, they were thinking about what’s usually located inside the box. Instead of having a big rectangle for a case, they chose to outline each component, putting it in its own compartment. Each compartment features its own cooling system, ensuring that you’ll never have to worry about overheating. You’ve got room for six hot-swappable SATA drives and three optical drives. My only concern is that you might not have enough room for some of the longer video cards. Oh, and that little $700 price tag might also be an issue for some.
We’re just about a month away from the release of Dragon Age: Origins, which means Bioware is teasing us with new footage from the game. Today we have a video and a few high-rez pics of the Ferelden capital city of Denerim. Here’s a brief description of the city for your reading pleasure.
“Denerim, the capital of Ferelden, began originally as an outpost of the ancient Tevinter Imperium. Its mages rose up a dark tower from the side of a mountain, a symbol of the Imperium’s power. As the Imperium faded, the tower passed to the hands of the teyrns that ruled the region for a millennium.
It’s just another concept at this point, but Jeong-Sun Park’s Knob Light will be appreciated by anyone who tends to wander the house at night. It’s basically a replacement door knob in the shape of a glowing light bulb, making it easier to find your way around when the lights are all off. There’s no specifics on how the bulb is supposed to get power, since doors aren’t usually wired for electricity, but I’m pretty sure it will use LED based bulbs instead of incandescent ones because of the whole hot glass vs. skin issue.
