World’s Smallest Da Vinci Ornithopter

By Andrew Liszewski

Da Vinci may have never had any luck getting the flying vehicles he dreamed up off the ground, but this remote controlled ornithopter inspired by one of his sketches has no problems getting airborne. Instead of a spinning propeller or rotor, the ornithopter has as a set of durable mylar covered wings that flap 40 times a second, not unlike an actual hummingbird, and can be steered around a room using the dual-stick remote control. A 5 minute charge on the controller is good for about 7 minutes of flight, and it’s available from Hammacher Schlemmer for about $60.

How is this cheaper then the Indiana Jones figure?

Well with the advancement of technology one would only think that creations of the past, can be made true now. It's only been a couple 100s of years since the designs were first thought up...

It's pretty neat though, that this was brought to life the way it was.

They should put little armaments on these things.

I honestly think that this is probably the coolest flying thing that I have seen in years. First of all Da Vinci, secondly.. It actually flies!!! Awesome
  • There's no way I can accept that this thing is capable of 3-dimensional flight. I'll have to see it to believe it.

if i wasnt toally swamped with bills i would so buy one of these, i am almost positive this is the only flying rc thing that ive ever seen that dosnt use a propeller or helium. which makes this truly unique in my eyes
