Basement Dwellers Beware: Jones Soda Releases D&D Spellcasting Soda

spellcasting-soda

By David Ponce

I’ve thought long and hard about making lame Dungeons & Dragons jokes, but what’s the point? Isn’t the fact that Jones Soda is releasing a line of D&D-themed sodas hilarious enough on its own? With names like Potion of Healing, Sneak Attack, Bigby’s Crushing Thirst Destroyer, Eldritch Blast, and Dwarven Draugh, the comical effect of the Spellcasting Soda line seems to have reached its climactic heights without any of my assistance. So I’ll just throw some hard facts at you: it’s $11 for a 6-pack and $19 for a 12-pack. Plus shipping of course. And since “all these limited edition packages are hand-made with care and you will need to allow a few days for delivery.”

That’s it really. Any druids or wizards reading this excited? Anyone?

Futurama: The Complete Collection Includes Bender’s Head As A Really Depressing Trophy

Futurama: The Complete Collection (Image courtesy Fox)
By Andrew Liszewski

I don’t know about you, but I’m still miffed about the way Fox treated Futurama, so I’m not entirely sure if I’d want to see Bender’s head every day, staring at me from my DVD shelf and reminding me about another brilliant animated series cut-down in its prime.

On the other hand, Futurama: The Complete Collection does include every single episode of the late sci-fi series, including the four recent feature-length adventures (which didn’t really capture the spirit of the original series) and should be mandatory for any animated series collection. And of course it also includes Bender’s head in a fake jar, and a numbered letter from Matt Groening and David X. Cohen. $159.98 from FoxStore.com available October 13, no Blu-ray.

GoGoStand Fits In Wallet, Is An iPhone Stand

GoGoStandOnWallet

By David Ponce

This doesn’t get much simpler. The GoGoStand is a plastic card with folds and cutouts. It’s the size of a credit card and fits in your wallet. Whenever you feel the need to watch something on your iPhone, you take it out, fold it and it turns into a stand. It can also be adjusted into three different viewing angles.

It’s all of $5, and we’ve included a video after the jump. It’s also currently sold-out until next week.

OhGizmo! Review – Logitech Wireless Desktop MK700

MK700

By Chris Scott Barr

Last month we told you about a new keyboard and mouse set from Logitech called the MK700. At first glance it seemed like any other wireless combo, but under the surface there were a few things to note. Namely the new “Incurve keys” and an amazing battery life. Well I’ve spent a couple of weeks with this pair of peripherals, and today I’ll share my thoughts.

Features

The second-most notable feature are the new Incurve keys, which are concave keys with rounded edges. These are supposed to be more comfortable than your average keyboard. The battery life is definitely the number one feature, as the mouse can go a year and the keyboard a full three years before either needs a new set of AA’s. An LCD dashboard tells you the status of things like your battery, Caps Lock and Num Lock. Hyper-fast scrolling and a 2.4GHz wireless transmitter round out the main features of this duo.

WiFi Dowsing Rod

WiFi Dowsing Rod (Images courtesy Mike Thompson)
By Andrew Liszewski

Mike Thompson designed this clever wifi network detector in the shape of a dowsing rod to apparently make it easier for anyone to use. “By basing the design for a wireless internet detector on century’s old technology, the user feels immediately at home with the product, whilst feeling less intimidated by the simple shape and natural materials.”

But I’ll be honest here, I’ve tried using a dowsing rod before and quite frankly, I’m not sold on the technology. My results were less than successful. But wifi detectors? I’ve never had a problem getting them to work. So maybe for his next project Mike could design a dowsing rod that looks and works like a wifi network detector, but for finding sources of water.

Who Says Electric Cars Are Heavy?

Tesla Roadster On Tea Cups (Images property OhGizmo!)
By Andrew Liszewski

I’ve walked past this display a few times over the last couple of weeks and figured I’d grab some photos of it last night. What you see there is a Tesla Roadster sitting on top of four tea cups in front of a William Ashley China store. Now one downside critics often cite when it comes to electric cars is the added weight from the large batteries, and according to this display the tea cups under the front wheels of the Tesla are each supporting 481 pounds while the tea cups under the back wheels each have to deal with 894 pounds. So if it’s not heavy enough to shatter a set of tea cups, I guess it’s nothing to worry about right?

Windows 7 will be hitting stores in just over a month, which means that lots of people will be looking to upgrade. If you happen to be a college student, Microsoft has announced that you will be able to upgrade to the newest OS for just $30 for a limited time.

Very soon students will be able to pre-order their upgrade copy of Windows 7 Home Premium for just $30. The only requirement is that you have a college email address. Then, on October 22 you will be able to download your copy and install it. Sure, some schools already have programs in place that hook students up with copies of Windows, but this will make sure that every student has a chance to get in on the deal. Pong iPhone Case Blocks Harmful Radiation

Pong

By Chris Scott Barr

There have been plenty of arguments saying that cell phones emit harmful radiation and will basically turn your brain into a pile of goo. I’m not really sure how much of this I believe, after all watching too much TV was supposed to have a similar effect when I was a kid. Anywho, if you’re worried about radiation from your iPhone, then look no further than the Pong case.

This special case is supposedly able to reduce intense ‘hotspot’ cell phone radiation by 85%. That leaves only 15% of the radiation, which should be easily thwarted by your tin foil hat. Alright, so maybe they do emit radiation and whatnot, but this case will set you back $60. Really, do you want to drop that much cash on a case that looks decent and may or may not have radiation-blocking powers?  I think I’ll spend my cash elsewhere.
