Nixie Concrete Clock

Nixie Concrete Clock (Image courtesy Daniel Kurth)
By Andrew Liszewski

If you need a clock that will surely stand the test of time you’ll want to keep your fingers crossed that Daniel Kurth’s Nixie Concrete Clock actually goes into production. At the moment it’s just a one-off concept featuring a set of six vintage Z560M Nixie tubes embedded in a fairly hefty block of concrete, but Daniel is apparently looking into production possibilities.

The concrete clock can apparently be wall mounted too if you prefer, with sufficient engineering of course, and the time is displayed in an irregular fashion so as not to stress people out by constantly reminding them of what time it actually is. But if you just have to know, it was 10:28:09 when the above photo was taken.

Oregon Scientific Marathon Pedometer

Marathon Pedometer (Image courtesy Oregon Scientific)
By Andrew Liszewski

Clearly not content with just providing the world with accurate weather forecasts, Oregon Scientific has branched out into other electronic endeavors, including possibly overpriced fitness aides. Their Marathon Pedometer uses an accelerometer to track your footsteps, distance, calories burned and time, so it can be worn around your neck or strapped to a part of your body, and it also allows you to set challenges to see how long it would actually take you to complete something like a marathon. It looks nice and all with its inverted LCD display, but at $59.99 it’s not the cheapest solution out there.

Clever Clock Design Tattles On Energy Usage

Energy Aware Clock (Image courtesy designboom)
By Andrew Liszewski

The Energy Aware Clock provides a more visually appealing, and easier to understand display of the energy usage in a particular room throughout the day. Created by a small army of Swedish designers (Loove Broms, Karin Ehrnberger, Sara Ilstedt Hjelm, Erika Lundell and Jin Moen) the clock forgoes a traditional face in favor of a circular graph that makes it pretty obvious to tell when the energy usage in the room where it’s installed has noticeably increased. And the actual time is indicated by the brightest spikes on the graph.

The Energy Aware Clock is part of the Visual Voltage Exhibition at Design Vlaanderen in Brussels, which runs until October 2nd.

Goldmund’s Eidos Reference Blue Blu-ray Player

By Andrew Liszewski

Looking for a Blu-ray player to compliment that $3,200 CD player you just picked up? Well this $135,000 model from Goldmund might just fit the bill. Their Eidos Reference Blue player is handmade in Geneva from 66 pounds of brass, aluminum and various electronics, and comes suspended on 4 spring-loaded legs sitting atop its own custom table. In other words, it probably won’t be squeezing into your entertainment center. But if for some reason you think this is a real deal, you better act fast and order one now since Goldmund will only be producing 50 units. Which is weird, since you’d think the demand for these players would be through the roof.

Review – Batman Arkham Asylum

Batman_AA_1200

This post is syndicated with permission from GamerFront.net

Batman. One would think that the rich history and “one man against all villainy” plot of this comic would have lent itself to a gaming classic by now. For one reason or another it just hasn’t happened with most games in the Dark Knight’s vault being shoddy movie adaptations. I’d long since given up hope of a decent Batman game and that’s why I was taken by surprise earlier this year at E3 when I got my hands on a playable demo of Batman: Arkham Asylum. This was the Batman game I’d waited for my whole life.

Immediately when starting the campaign you’re drawn into an engaging story, picking up with Batman just having apprehended the Joker and delivering him back to Arkham Asylum. During the intake procedure the Joker manages an escape and reveal his plot to take over the facility. Inmates are turned loose and the first introduction to combat begins.

JOBO PhotoGPS Adds Geotagging To Your Current DSLR

JOBO-PhotoGPS

By Chris Scott Barr

Geotagging is nothing new, and the required hardware is finding itself into more and more cameras. After all, who wouldn’t like to know exactly where their pictures were taken? Well if your camera doesn’t have a built-in GPS device, it’s rather difficult to acquire the exact location of your shot. Thankfully devices such as the JOBO photoGPS exist.

The JOBO photoGPS sits atop your DSLR in the hot-shoe, and captures raw GPS data whenever you snap a photo. Later, when you download your pictures to a computer, you can also download the GPS data. The included software will then use the information it previously gathered and geotag your pictures. It can even add in information such as city, street POIs and more. $159 is a bit pricey, but also looks to be one of the easier geotagging solutions for existing cameras.

Google Voice Now Forwards SMS To Your Email

sms

By Chris Scott Barr

Google Voice is probably the coolest service you can get for your phone. Of course the hard part is still getting an invitation. Well for those of you already in, here’s another new feature that you might be excited about. You now have the option to forward text messages to an email address.

This feature is similar to what they already offer for voicemails. Only they (obviously) don’t have to mess with transcribing the message. You’ll also be able to respond to such text messages from your email. Since you can also choose to not have your SMS messages sent to your phone, you could avoid text messaging fees by simply using this new feature. Granted, that would be an annoying way to do things, but it is possible. Google Voice just keeps getting more awesome with each passing month. Now where are those invites that everyone is waiting for?

Sony DRC-BT30P (Image courtesy Akihabara News)
By Andrew Liszewski

There, was that so difficult? I can’t tell you how long I’ve been hunting for a simple Bluetooth headphone adapter that will let me use my OWN headphones, not some crappy bundled pair. Well the Sony DRC-BT30P appears to do just that, complete with buttons for answering calls as well as volume and playback controls given the device you’re paired with supports those features. And if for some reason you don’t choose the black model, white, pink and blue color options are also provided.
