TOOB Immersive Omni-Directional Personal Dome Screens

TOOB Omni-Directional Screen (Images courtesy TOOB)
By Andrew Liszewski

Great news! You no longer have to go to an expo/world’s fair/amusement park/science center to experience one of those omni dome theaters. The TOOB provides the same basic experience, though on a considerably smaller scale. Created by Alexander McDonnell, the TOOB consists of a half-dome movie screen that’s large enough for a couple of people to sit in front of, as well as a specially shaped mirror that reflects the image from a projector onto the dome’s surface. And since it’s powered by a regular home theater projector (instead of proprietary hardware) you can use it with any video source like a DVD player or a gaming console.

According to Cool Hunting, the home version of the TOOB, which measures 3-feet by 6-feet with an 18-inch reflector, sells for $1,440, but the hardware can be rented and is also available in a considerably larger 8-foot by 16-foot inflatable version for use outdoors.

So It Turns Out The Nikon S1000pj Is NOT The First Camera With A Built-in Projector

Wittnauer Cine-Twin (Image courtesy PacificRimCamera)
By Andrew Liszewski

While it might be the world’s first digital camera with a built-in projector, it turns out the Nikon S1000pj was actually trumped way back in 1957 when it comes to the convergence of cameras and projectors. The Wittnauer Cine-Twin was an 8mm film camera that could be converted into a projector with the addition of a special base and a few other add-ons like film reels and what-not. Unfortunately there were many factors that prevented the Cine-Twin from catching on back in the day including its 3 heavy D-cell batteries, the fact that the delicate and expensive projector bulb was always in the camera, even when you were out shooting, and it was only sold in jewelry stores (Wittnauer was apparently a famous jeweler.) So here’s to hoping that Nikon has a bit more success with their design.

Tac Bac – Tactical Canned Bacon

Tactical Bacon

By Chris Scott Barr

So lets say that you’re out on some covert operation in the wild, and you’re craving bacon. We’ll also assume that you’re in an area that’s devoid of pigs. Unfortunately without a freezer, or access to one, most people would be out of luck. But not you, you’re much more resourceful than that. You’ve got Tactical Bacon.

Yes my friend, the bacon that you know and love now comes in a convenient can that does not need to be refrigerated until opened. With a shelf life of over ten years, these are perfect for your underground bunker. You know, for the zombie uprising. $16 gets you 9 ounces of your favorite pork product.

Video Of Smoking iMac Surfaces In China

By David Ponce

After news reports that iPhone and iPod products have been exploding and injuring at least one, now comes a video from someone in China that purports to show an iMac smoking and nearly catching fire. From what I can understand, first the screen started to smoke, then went blank. The user unplugged it and captured the above video (fittingly) with with iPhone 3G S.

Other than that there aren’t more details.

Colorful Bodum Bistro Toasters – Because There Is Such A Thing As Too Much Stainless Steel

Bodum Bistro Toaster (Images courtesy Sur La Table)
By Andrew Liszewski

The next time you go shopping for kitchen appliances you might want to consider a finish other than stainless steel, glossy black or chrome. Of course color can be a dangerous thing in the wrong hands, but the Bistro line of toasters from Bodum come in one of 8 different colors that manage to be bright and cheerful but not blindingly tacky. And it’s no slouch when it comes to being a toaster either with 900 watts of power to perfectly brown your bread or bagel, adjustable slots, a pop-up warming rack and a heat-resistant rubber exterior that stays cool to the touch and is easy to clean. $79.95 from Sur La Table.

XM SkyDock Turns Your iPhone Into A Satellite Radio Receiver

skydock

By Chris Scott Barr

I haven’t jumped on the satellite radio bandwagon, mostly because I’m happy with just hooking up my iPhone and listening to my collection of tunes. However, for those that aren’t content to listen to their iTunes collection in the car, you might be interested in this XM SkyDock, which turns your iPhone into a Sirius XM Radio tuner.

This, combined with the corresponding app, gives you full access to all of Sirius XM’s lineup (unlike the regular Sirius XM app, which omits several key stations) from your iPhone. The SkyDock plugs into your car’s cigarette adapter to not only provide power to your phone, but it also allows it to transmit audio to your stereo through the car’s electrical system. This will work when playing music through iTunes, as well as Sirius XM. Another cool feature is iTunes tagging, which allows you to tag a song you hear so that it can be purchased through iTunes later.

The kit will be available sometime in the fall for $120, plus the cost of a Sirius XM subscription. Any iPhone or iPod Touch running 3.0 software will work.

Review – Buckshot Pump-Action Shotgun For The Wii

Buck Shot

This post is syndicated with permission from GamerFront.net

These days Wii accessories are only outnumbered by those made for the iPod. Unfortunately, Wii accessories are generally cheap pieces of plastic that do little to add to the enjoyment of the game, despite what the product claims. The only time I bother with such an addition to my Wiimote is when I’m playing a shooter.

I’ve gone through a number of different gun accessories, most of them weren’t of decent quality, or in the case of the ezShot I reviewed last year, couldn’t even perform basic functions properly. Thus I’ve continued to use the official Zapper that came with my Link’s Crossbow Training game. Even that one isn’t perfect, as my large hands sometimes feel cramped when using it. Needless to say, I was skeptical when I received the Buckshot controller from Komodo.

Jakks Star Wars Original Trilogy TV Game

By Andrew Liszewski

In my opinion, these all-in-one, plug directly into your TV handheld gaming devices reached their pinnacle when the Pong controller version was released a few years ago. So what makes this one special? Well nothing really, besides the fact that it’s shaped like the Millennium Falcon!! It runs on 4 x AA batteries and includes original-trilogy-only games like Assault on Hoth, Red Leader, Battle of Endor and Lightsaber Duel. Now I can’t vouch for the quality of the games, though from what I recall the source material was well received, but for just $34.99 from Amazon it’s probably a half-decent way to kill some time in a hotel room.

SendStation PocketDock Means One Less White Cable To Carry

SendStation PocketDock Line Out Mini USB (Image courtesy SendStation)
By Andrew Liszewski

I know, another iPhone accessory? But before you move on to the next post hear me out, this one has some merit. As anyone with an iPhone knows, the battery life isn’t exactly stellar, which means it’s usually a good idea to have a charging cable on hand at all times. But because of the iPhone’s proprietary dock connector, that cable usually has to be the white one included with the phone. But the PocketDock Mini USB from SendStation is a small dongle that connects to the bottom of the iPhone and lets you use a regular mini-USB cable for charging and syncing. Sure you still have to carry a cable, but there’s a good chance you have other electronics that can use it too.

But there’s more! The PocketDock also gives you access to the iPhone’s line out connection letting you connect the phone to your home or car stereo with better sound than the headphone jack supposedly provides, while consuming slightly less battery power. $29.95 from SendStation’s online store.
