Having trouble with your aluminum MacBook getting too warm? For just $41.22 from Amazon you can solve the problem with the Just Mobile Cooling Bar, or as I and the rest of the world like to call it, a machined aluminum rod. On the plus side it matches the MacBook’s finish, give or take, has a series of rubber grip rings to protect it from scratching the underside and even features “convenient cable management” which as far as I can tell is really just a notch cut into one end of the rod. But on the downside it costs $42 and people like me will make fun of you if we see you using it in public.
It’s Monday, which means most people are back at work and not very happy about it. How was your weekend? Did you notice anything different when you turned on your TV? A bit of snow perhaps? Something tells me that you guys were smart enough to either upgrade your TV or buy a converter box. Or maybe you were like me and just ditched broadcast TV completely. With Hulu and other streaming services, there’s really nothing for broadcast television to offer me.
So did the switchover affect any of you? Surprisingly I didn’t get a single phone call from a friend or relative who was having issues. Even my great-grandparents had everything squared-away months ago. While I didn’t get any calls, the federal hotline for the DTV switch received over 700,000 calls. These ranged from questions about the coupons, reception issues to people that didn’t know how to operate their boxes. Most of the calls were resolved by having people simply re-scan the channels. Did any of you run into these issues, or get calls from relatives?
Radar detectors are nothing new. Sure, they’ve gotten their fair share of upgrades to keep up with the latest police equipment, but how effective are they against speed and red-light cameras? I don’t know of any that are able to warn you of either device, which might land you a ticket in the mail. Thankfully, Cobra has a trick up their sleeve.
The new Cobra SL3 has built-in GPS functionality so that it can tell you when you are approaching an area that has either red-light cameras or speed cameras. It has a series of LEDs and warning tones that will let you know when you are getting close. It updates itself every 12 hours so that it has the latest information on new cameras that have been installed. For $100, it will pay for itself by preventing just one ticket.
The Pre is shaping up to be the best thing Palm has made since they introduced the Palm Pilot way back when. As such, it’s no surprise that it’s already getting hacked by people to become even more useful than it already is. My favorite one so far? Definitely the NES emulator.
You’ll need to do a little hacking to get root access to the device, then compile FCEUltra. A little more work to get the program to display games at 320 x 480 and you’ll be good to go. Isn’t it great that we go through so much trouble so our fancy new technology can play games that are 20 years old?
This is a highlight reel I put together of the best of the combat robot events from Friday, the first day of RoboGames. The event runs through the weekend, and includes much more than just combat… We’ll be updating BotJunkie.com with plenty more pics and vids. If you want to see more video of Saturday (day 2) highlights, including a couple 340 pound super-heavy combat bots tossing each other into the air, head on over to BotJunkie.com right now, ’cause we’ve got it posted.
So, does someone want to help me figure out how and why this CD clock radio from Sonoro costs a whopping $550? Let’s see, it’s got a slot loading CD player that’s MP3-friendly, nothing special there. A ‘top-quality’ AM/FM radio, not exactly a bleeding edge innovation either. An iPod dock that will also recharge your player? Hmm… Well I guess if you haven’t set foot in an electronics store in the past 10 years this might seem like a technological breakthrough, but other than that, I’m hard-pressed to find a reason why anyone would drop $550 on this thing. Oh wait, I didn’t notice the shiny black finish and glowing accents! Now I get it!
Is there anything you can’t get in a can these days? Seriously though, I’m truly thankful to be living in a time where technology has allowed us to compress and contain everything from that new book smell to realistic smoke in an easy-to-use nozzled metal cylinder.
And let’s face it, nothing takes a party from yawn to memorable like some pseudo-realistic smoke effects, which this provides in spades! Each can’s got about 5-minutes worth of the non-toxic water vapor and vegetable oil ‘smoke’ spray, which will supposedly hang in a room for about 2 hours without setting off your smoke alarm.
After using an iPhone for a couple of years now, I only yesterday realized how poor the camera’s macro capabilities were. Now obviously it’s not something I use on a regular basis, but the ability to snap usable photos of text from magazine articles or even business cards can definitely come in handy. So the options for iPhone 2G or 3G users are to either upgrade to the new 3GS, which could be rather expensive depending on your current contract, or just grab this Clarifi case from Griffin Technology for just $30.99(currently on sale).
Not only will the durable polycarbonate case protect your phone, but it also features a sliding macro lens on the back which improves the iPhone camera’s focus distance from about 18 inches down to 4 inches, allowing you to finally take half-decent close-up shots.
The other day my son learned a valuable life lesson, one of those lessons that every guy learns at one point in life — girls get nicer bathrooms. One day he will learn another valuable life lesson — dads have to act like they love what you give them for Father’s Day even if it sucks.
This year don’t give dad something that sucks, Walmart has a few specials for dad’s day that any dad would be glad to get. If dad doesn’t have a Blu-ray player he would love to get the Magnavox NB500MGX Blu-ray player Walmart is offering for only $128 and you can pick up some Blu-ray movies two for $20. Even if you aren’t a dad that is a cheap price on a Blu-ray player, even if it will lack some of the newer Blu-ray features that require Internet connectivity.
