Apple Responds To Pre’s iTunes Compatibility

By Chris Scott Barr

Remember not that long ago when we let you know that the Pre would be able to sync with iTunes straight out of the box? Well we knew it was only a matter of time before Apple tried to do something about it. While the likely have no legal grounds to take action directly against Palm, they’ve already warned users that the functionality isn’t going to last. They released a support note that stated the following:

Apple is aware that some third-parties claim that their digital media players are able to sync with Apple software. However, Apple does not provide support for, or test for compatibility with, non-Apple digital media players and, because software changes over time, newer versions of Apple’s iTunes software may no longer provide syncing functionality with non-Apple digital media players.

What this means is simply that they know of the Pre’s capabilities, and they’re going to make sure that it won’t work with a future version of iTunes. I love iTunes, and while I also am very happy with my iPhone, I don’t see any reason why those with a Pre shouldn’t be able to enjoy similar compatibility. So here’s my advice: Go to Apple’s site, download the latest version of iTunes. Now save the installation file somewhere safe. Now you’ll always have a version of iTunes that works with your Pre.

Meade ETX-LS automated Telescope Ships

By Shane McGlaun

I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid right until the point where I found out that you really needed to be in the military for a shot. The thought of getting ordered around was more than my 8-year-old brain could take so I settled for a telescope.

My old telescope was just about impossible to use. Meade has a new scope that will turn anyone into an astronomy buff called the ETX-LS. The telescope is fully automated and will set itself using GPS and other technologies and take users on a tour of the night sky.

Left 4 Dead Mobile Is Horrifically Precious

Left 4 Dead Mobile (Images courtesy Etsy)
By Andrew Liszewski

Even infants have to be prepared for the inevitable zombie infestation, and I can’t think of a better way to get them accustomed to hideous freaks battling it out with heavily armed commandos than with this adorable Left 4 Dead mobile hanging above their crib. Created by Etsy seller SaltyandSweet the mobile is made from laser cut 1/16-inch black mat board connected with black wire and it takes up about as much space as a basketball when in motion. $36 on Etsy.

Seahope Ants Watch Could Be The World’s Most Confusing Timepiece

Seahope Ants Watch (Images courtesy the Japan Trend Shop)
By Andrew Liszewski

Tokyo Flash is usually the world leader when it comes to producing confusing watches that make telling the time at a glance nearly impossible, but I think Seahope may have just snatched the title with this Ants watch. The display is basically covered with a seemingly random pattern of ants that light up in red, green or orange depending on the current time. I’ve also included a shot of the ‘how-to-read’ guide, and as you can see, deciphering the time requires some basic counting and math skills. So the watch is probably better suited to a college-educated professional entomologist than a little kid who happens to like bugs.

Other features include a stainless steel case and band, a mineral glass face and the watch is waterproof to 3ATM, though it’s recommended you don’t submerge it. $207 from the Japan Trend Shop.

Kingston DataTraveler 200 Is The First 128GB Flash Drive

By Andrew Liszewski

It was bound to happen, but it’s still pretty cool to see the release of a 128GB USB flash drive. The Kingston DataTraveler 200 comes in 32 and 64GB flavors, but it’s the “built-to-order only” 128GB model that will have most of us drooling. All 3 drives include a sliding USB connector instead of an easy-to-lose cap, which is nice, and while the 32 and 64GB models will set you back $120 and $213 respectively, that 128GB one will retail for a hefty $546!

Sony Vaio VGP-BMS10 Compact Bluetooth Mouse

By Andrew Liszewski

Sony Japan has just released a compact bluetooth mouse that looks like a perfect complement to the Vaio P ultraportable laptop they introduced earlier in the year. The VGP-BMS10 features an aluminum sliding cover that powers the mouse on and off and also protects the scroll wheel and buttons while it’s stashed in a laptop case. Otherwise it’s not exactly swimming in extra features or functions, though it does have an 800dpi laser and a decent range of about 10 meters. The VGP-BMS10 will be officially available in August for about $67, and it appears to be only Windows compatible, so anyone who’s endeavored to install OS X on their Vaio P is out of luck.

CYBER Coin Assist For The DS Solves A Problem I Didn’t Know Existed

CYBER Coin Assist (Image courtesy CYBER Gadget)
By Andrew Liszewski

Accessories like this CYBER Coin Assist are usually reserved for the PSP and its somewhat disappointing directional pad. So I’m kind of surprised to see that this particular doohickey is specifically designed for the Nintendo DS. From my own testing I’ve never had an issue with the d-pad on any of the DS units, and I’ve found that it’s actually been improved with each model. But if you’re a particularly hardcore and picky Mario Kart racer this plastic disc will supposedly improve your handling helping you stay in first place with no hope of ever getting a red shell from a question block.

I have no idea what the pricing for the CYBER Coin Assist will be (it’s expected to be available in late July) but if you spend more than $0.25 for one you can consider yourself ripped-off.

WALL-E’s M-O Coming To A Crumb Covered Desk Near You

WALL-E Clean And Go M-O Deluxe Action Figure (Image courtesy Amazon)
By Andrew Liszewski

He may not be the poster bot for the film, but M-O, aka Micro Obliterator’s quiet antics in WALL-E made him instantly likable. And not only did he do a good job at keeping the Axiom clean, but even with just a set of glowing eyes he had loads more personality than the most advanced Roomba. So for that reason alone this M-O deluxe action figure would make a great addition to any desk. But what’s with the deluxe you might ask? Well it turns out M-O actually has a set of duel bristles on the front allowing him to sweep up any dust or crumbs you roll him over, which are collected in an easy to empty waste bin on his back. Let’s see an Eve figure do that! $21.99 from Amazon.
