Babyglow Garment Changes Color When Your Baby Is Running A Fever

babyglow

By Chris Scott Barr

I like to think that I’m pretty good when it comes to troubleshooting computers. I’ve spent enough of my time solving error code mysteries and translating beep codes to know what’s up. However, when it comes to babies I’ll admit to being practically clueless. When they start crying it could mean any number of things. Sure, if they smell like poo then they probably need changed, past that I’m lost. Well thanks to a breakthrough in infant clothing, you’ll be able to tell if the child is running a fever just by looking at them.

The new Babyglow clothes contain a special ink pigment which are heat-sensitive. The clothes come in pink, blue and pastel green, however, once the baby’s temperature gets above 37c they turn white. Sure, you could probably feel that the baby is a bit warm and take their temperature, but some new parents might not know how warm is too warm, or any other number of factors could come into play. These clothes take out the guesswork and allow parents to rest just a little easier. You will be able to purchase these later this year for around $35 a pack.

Popcorn C-200 Settop Box Announced

popcornc-200-sb

By Shane McGlaun

It seems like every other device that comes out today is designed to allow streaming of media from the Internet to your TV. The feature is being included in many Blu-ray players, new HDTVs, and some game consoles can stream content as well.

Syabas has announced a new settop box called the Popcorn C-200 that is set to launch in July for $299. The device is capable of streaming 30 different video formats from the Internet to your TV including MPEG 1, 2, 4, AVI, H.264, Xvid, MKV, Windows Media, and more.

National Geographic Teams Up with Cellular Abroad for Travel Phone

By Shane McGlaun

Despite the swine flu, there are still lots of people who have to travel internationally for business or even for fun. I can understand, I wouldn’t let some pork disease keep me from working or going on that vacation to Italy.

An even bigger problem for travelers than swine flu is the fact that most of our mobile phones won’t work in other countries. National Geographic has teamed up with a company called Cellular Abroad to offer a new travel phone called the Duet. The phone can be pared with a pre-paid international SIM card from National Geographic or another international SIM the user already has.

Pure Air Sleep System Air Purifier

Pure Air Sleep System Air Purifier (Image courtesy AllergyBuyersClub.com)
By Andrew Liszewski

I suffer from some mild seasonal allergies, but it’s nothing that prevents me from getting a good night’s sleep. However, if itchy eyes and a runny nose leaves you tossing and turning all night, this crazy contraption might just be the solution to your problems. The Pure Air Sleep System Air Purifier features a HEPA filtration system hidden under the bed that works in conjunction with a directed vent to create a ‘sleep zone’ of purified air that’s 99% free of dust mite particles, pet dander and pollens in just 12 seconds. ($349 from AllergyBuyersClub.com.)

Of course it’s only an effective solution for allergies when you’re laying in bed, so I’d like to see someone modify the system so it could be worn as a backpack and used to create a clean curtain of air no matter where you are.

Mobidapter USB Flash Drive Adapter For Mobile Phones

Mobidapter (Images courtesy Elan & iostore)
By Andrew Liszewski

Instead of having to connect your mobile phone and a USB flash drive to a PC in order to transfer files between the two, the Mobidapter lets you do it directly, as long as your phone has an external SD. It includes adapters for full size SD card slots as well as microSD and miniSD, and it will read any USB flash drive with a capacity of 32GB or less. Power is leeched from the cellphone’s battery, and the actual copying procedures are handled by the phone’s file browser, with the device simply showing up as a USB flash drive. (Though that could vary depending on the OS.)

The Mobidapter will set you back about $46, but it seems like a dead easy way to backup or upload multimedia content to your phone without the hassle of booting up a PC.

Wii Bowling Ball Accessory Might Be A Bit Much

Bowling ball for Wii (Image courtesy CTA Digital)
By Andrew Liszewski

Wii Sports bowling still remains one of the most played titles on my Wii, but even still, I’m not sure if it warrants this crazy bowling ball accessory that CTA Digital revealed at this year’s E3. As you probably suspect, the bowling ball splits in half allowing you to entomb your Wiimote inside, though you still have access to the controls thanks to an extra set of buttons on the outside of the ball. And not pictured are a set of three finger holes allowing you to “mimic all the critical motions a ‘striking’ performance requires.”

There’s no word on pricing or availability, but I can’t imagine there are too many people chomping at the bit to get their hands on this thing.

Review – LEGO Battles

This post is syndicated with permission from GamerFront.net

We’ve seen a lot of LEGO video games over the last few years, most of which have been a lot of fun. Well the guys in charge decided it was time to branch out from the RPG games that they’ve been so focused on of late and bring us LEGO Battles. This real-time strategy game for the DS lets you take command of pirates, wizards, spacemen and more. But does it deliver the fun?

The game has several different campaigns to play through, each from a different LEGO theme. Each campaign is broken up into three acts, which get progressively harder. The game is great for those unfamiliar with RTS titles, and walks you through every little step at the beginning. After a couple of battles you’ll be building towers and commanding your men like a pro.

Solar Charging USB Hub

solarusb

By Evan Ackerman

When it comes to charging gadgets, the most important criteria has to be versatility. Maybe you’ll find yourself near an outlet. Maybe you’ll find yourself with some AA batteries. Maybe you’ll find yourself drunk. Or maybe you’ll find yourself out in the sun, in which case a solar panel would be just what you need.

This solar panel comes in the form of a 4 port USB hub. Yes, USB ports generally provide their own power, so most of the time, this thing will be under a pile of stuff on your desk and plugged in and the solar panel will be useless. But there’s also a 700 mAh battery in there which charges up from your computer, sun or no sun, and you can then disconnect the hub and carry it around to charge anything with a USB interface. When the battery runs out, you can leave the hub in the sun to recharge it.

The idea of fusing a solar panel with a battery is certainly not a new one, but it’s a great combination… Solar charging is slow and restricted to midday, but adding a battery means you can store up the power and use it anytime. And why the heck not make it into a USB hub? For only $22, there’s pretty much no reason not to get one of these if you’re in need of a couple extra USB ports and a portable charger for your gadgets.
