As far as logo making and design like this, your buddy better get a firm grasp of a computer because while hand drawn logos possess their own charm, it's not practical in the business world. What will take your friend hours to do will take an 18 year old minutes. Again kudos for the old school hand done stuff, but if your trying to sell yourself (which he apparently is) get Photoshop.
