Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and while I’m not 100% sure what inspired Rog8811 to cram a Blu-ray laser diode into a Zippo housing, the results are well worth the effort that went into this mod. He’s provided a pretty detailed step-by-step explanation of how the whole thing was put together on his site, but I’ll warn you, it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. I threw in the towel before I even got below-the-fold. But if you manage to pull it off you’ll have a laser-powered Zippo that can not only light a cigar in just a few seconds, but is also capable of providing severe retinal damage if you don’t wear safety glasses whenever you use it. Awesome!
I’m a big fan of Pixar movies, as you may have noticed. Even so, I was a little bit, um, let’s say, skeptical when I first saw the trailer:
It wasn’t the flying house that I was worried about. It was the crotchety old man versus the slightly chubby, irrepressibly annoying little kid. What a hilaaaarious juxtaposition, as proven by myriads of mediocre sitcoms!
All I can say now is, I should have had more faith in Pixar. Over the weekend, Disney invited us to meet with director Pete Docter and producer Jonas Rivera, followed by a screening of the first half of the movie… And at this point, the only thing I’m worried about is how I’m going to survive until May 29th a whole 45 minutes short of the entire movie. More about Up (spoiler-free except for one little tidbit), after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
With a new and improved Star Trek film just around the corner, we all better brace ourselves for an onslaught of movie merchandise that will probably rival the efforts of the Lucas camp. Like a Star Trek themed version of 20 Questions for example. Besides being shaped like the classic Enterprise, making it completely pocket-unfriendly, this edition of 20 Questions is chock full of trivia from the Star Trek movies, television series and characters. So with just 20 questions you’ll be amazed as the game manages to quess that you still have a creepy obsession with Seven of Nine.
20 Questions Star Trek Edition will be available from Entertainment Earth sometime in March for about $21.
While it’s nowhere near as fancy as the motion sensing peephole that Evan brought us last week, this Digital Door Viewer is still a high-tech step-up over your typical peephole. Installation is as easy as swapping out your current peephole hardware with a small video camera, and mounting the LCD on the inside of the door. It’s powered by 8 x AA batteries so no power cord is needed, and that should let you use the LCD for up to 1,000 5-second ‘viewing cycles’ according to Frontgate. (Or about 83 minutes if you do the math.)
A nice upgrade for sure, but I’m not sure if it’s quite worth $399.
The Clarion MiND (which I will herein capitalize as normal) is supposed to be a lot of things. It’s supposed to be a GPS, an internet tablet, a media player, and more… All stuffed into one sleek and portable package. It’s a brilliant idea, an idea that a lot of companies have been trying to make happen for a long time. So is this what the Clarion Mind is? A video explains it all, plus my review, after the jump.
