Carcade In-Car Gaming

By Evan Ackerman

This project by Berlin University of Arts students Andreas Nicolas Fischer, Martin Kim Luge and Korbinian Polk uses a webcam to take video of the scene outside a moving car and transform it into a dynamic, real world video game. Objects in the video (buildings and trees and stuff) are transformed into in-game objects on the laptop, letting the passengers (passengers, mind you) play against or with the passing scenery. The faster the car goes, the harder it is. I’m not sure what happens when the car stops, or if you’re driving across Oklahoma where there are no objects, but it’s a pretty cool idea with a functional concept demo that reminds me of Star Fox for SNES. Take a look:

Edit: Yeah, the sound effects are totally from Star Fox :)

  • It's just pure fun & entertainment but I think I want a clear view of the surroundings outside. It's also much safer that way.
