The Dragon – A 1:48 Scale Model Roller Coaster For Your Living Room

By Andrew Liszewski

Even though I never get motion sickness and even love flying, I’ll admit I’m not a big fan of roller coasters. Or at least full scale coasters. Give me a smaller version, like The Dragon model from DynamixCoasters, and the kid in me will easily waste a good chunk of the day watching the cars race around the tracks. At 1:48 scale, the base of The Dragon is 2 feet wide and 6 feet long and the tallest part of the coaster towers 3 feet above your living room carpet. All of the pieces snap-together so it’s easy to assemble, or more importantly, disassemble when company comes to visit. And except for the electric geared lift, the whole thing is powered by gravity just like a real coaster. There’s a couple of videos of The Dragon in action, including a really cool first-person shot, but you’ll have to visit the CoasterDynamix website to view them since they’re not posted to YouTube. Because the last thing you want if you’re trying to sell a product is other websites showing your videos and giving you free publicity.

At $499.95 from CoasterDynamix The Dragon straddles the line between a toy and collectible model, but either way it should provide plenty of entertainment for kids, grown-up kids and really old kids.
