Pedal Powered Wheelchair Seems So Wrong

By Luke Anderson

This product looks like it has to be the product of some sick twisted mind. Seriously, a wheel chair is made for people that can’t walk, or at the very least have trouble walking. So why on earth would you make a pedal-powered wheel chair?

There is an actual purpose behind this chair, aside from making disabled people cry. This allows people who still have limited use of their legs to try and build up strength. While it does serve a good purpose, it still just looks plain cruel.

Is that ex-Aussie PM John Howard in there? Work dried up fast....

I have always dreamed of something like that...
  • All these years cripples have been using their arms to move around when they could have been using their legs..... wait a minute.

It actually makes a lot of sense. Plenty of people who use wheelchairs can actually walk to some extent, but it's usually only in short bursts. When it becomes hard to walk, you stop walking as much, which will make it even harder because you're getting even less exercise in your legs. I know a couple older people who could benefit from this, as it would allow them to get more, low-impact exercise for their legs. It's a great idea.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Mark.. exactly what I thought upon reading it.

THIS IS BRILLIANT!!! I am looking for one for an elderly man with severe balance problems - he used to be an avid cyclist and runner - he would love this!

Does anyone know where one could get one of these in Europe, and how much they might cost? I also know a wheelchair user (who uses an exercise bike to get exercise) who could benefit from this.

I was being a bit lazy... googled a bit and found that at least Bromakin Wheelchairs in Leicestershire, UK sells them. Speedybikes is the maker, http://www.speedybikes.co.uk/pedalofit.html

Are you fucking retarted. The idea of a pedal powered wheelchair is pure irony it was never meant to be taken seriously if someone made something to help someone with the idea SHUT UP. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Steven you should wash your hands!

HR and BP is higher in arm muscle exercises than in leg muscle exercises - this is actually an excelent rehab tool for post cardiovascular operation patients - since a normal wheelchair would involve them using their hands to move about, and an electric chair would not allow them to get any exercise at all - this can be started off with quite early, and help them strengthen not only skeletal muscle but also cardiac muscle and in addition help increase their cardiovascular level.
