The killer feature of this charger in my opinion is the "refresh" mode. That mode will charge/discharge your batteries over many cycles until it no longer continues to "hold" more power. I had some Energizer rechargeable AA's that have lost a significant amount of their holding power. They are in the charger in refresh mode now. I believe they are rated at 2500mah. The worst of the bunch comes in at a pitiful 240mah (verified by the "test" mode of the La Crosse charger)! There are some reviews of the charger on the Amazon site that have more details on this, and how well it recovered some of their batteries. I also own a Maha charger and that is a fantastic charger as well, and much smaller (good for travel), but it doesn't hold a candle to what this La Crosse one can do!
