If you’re a fan of Subway restaurants you might be interested to know that the same company that provides them with their commercial ovens has recently created a consumer version. Of course using the same oven as Subway will definitely not guarantee Jared-like results if that’s your motive for buying one, but if it’s a high-tech piece of kitchen hardware you’re after, this would be a good choice.
When it comes to cooking, arguably the most important feature of any oven, the TurboChef claims to cook foods up to 15 times faster than a conventional model thanks to its ‘Airspeed Technology’ which evenly circulates the heated air inside. To put that in perspective cooking a 12 lb. turkey would normally take about 4 hours, but cooking it in the TurboChef would only take about 42 minutes.
For the gadget crowd the oven also has a large, full color LCD display known as the ‘Cook Navigator’ which includes 500 different cooking profiles. Just select your food and portion size and the profile will automatically setup the proper cook time and temperature for you. Alternately, you can use the ‘Cookwheel’ dial which provides a shortcut to seven different cooking modes including Bake, Roast, Broil, Air Crisp, Toast, Dehydrate and a user-programmable one.
Even though I couldn’t find a price, I assume the TurboChef probably doesn’t come cheap. Unless of course you do like Subway and buy 28,000 of them, then you’ll probably get a discount.
