Nokia Issues Recall of 46 Million Cell Phone Batteries

Nokia issued a battery recall today covering a whopping 46 million of their BL-5C batteries. Only batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006 are covered in the recall.
Nokia says that the battery could overheat during charging and has the potential to dislodge. I’m not really sure what they mean by “dislodge”, sounds like a nice way of saying the battery could blow out of your phone while it is charging up.
Nokia reports that about 100 cases of overheating have been reported so far, and that all were during battery charging. While Nokia says no serious injuries have occurred to date, they are offering to replace the battery free of charge on any phone covered in the product advisory.
