Metro Roll-Up Lighting

Metro Roll-Up Lighting

From what I can tell this Metro roll-up lighting system is a lot like those metal ‘slap bracelets‘ that were popular in the late 80’s and early 90’s. When unrolled the metal would ‘snap’ into a rigid strip but when bent they would ‘unsnap’ and roll up tight. Hopefully I’m not the only person who remembers those because I can’t think of a better comparison. But if you have no idea what I’m talking about maybe the official description of the ‘Lampada Metro’ from designer Francisco Gomez Paz’s website might help:

Metro is a ligthing fixture made with one foil of 3M film OLF and two foils of polycarbonate, that structures when the packaging is unrolled with a simple gest.

Metro is not only a lamp but a system, a way to structure bidimensional elements creating a strong an efficient self-structured object.

Yeah, that probably didn’t help much either but at least the photos give you a good idea how it works. And I can already see the benefits of an easy to store lighting system like this whether for travel, leisure or even emergency situations. Unfortunately though while the ‘Lampada Metro’ concept dates back a few years I’m pretty sure it’s still not available for sale. Hopefully I’m wrong though.
