In recent years there have been quite a few innovative designs when it comes to fireplaces but this is the first one I’ve seen that runs on water. You simply fill up a tank or connect it to your home’s plumbing and the Aqueon’s built-in electrolysis system will separate the water into its two components. The hydrogen of course is immediately burned to produce the fire while the oxygen is used in limited amounts to add flame color and brightness, with the rest simply being released into the room.

In addition to being the cleanest burning fireplace you can find the Aqueon supposedly generates 31,000 Btu an hour of heat from 1/2 gallon of water. But sadly the Aqueon is only a concept and is not available for sale. Like their website says “Due to the complexity of the technology necessary to operate the Aqueon, it is not available for purchase at this time. The purpose of the Aqueon is to demonstrate the potential of alternative fuels and provide a glimpse of what the future may hold for hearth products.” Oh well.
