Remote Control Outlets – A Switch Too Far

Remote Control Outlets (Image courtesy Taylor Gifts)By Andrew Liszewski

I’m going to skip the ‘lazy person’ comments for this one because I could actually use a few of these around the apartment. Unless you built the home you’re living in odds are you didn’t get to choose where the outlets were installed so they tend to get hidden behind couches, under tables or in other hard to reach places.

These remote control outlets are a simple solution and can be used to cut power to whatever’s plugged in to them. (So it’s probably best to stick with simple appliances like lamps or fans.) Up to 4 of them can be controlled by a simple remote that has a range of up to 100 feet. The only downside I can see is the size of the actual outlet adapters which are larger than even the biggest power adapter I have.

The remote with 1 outlet is available from Taylor Gifts for $19.98 while additional outlets are only $9.98 each.
