I work for Halo, so I can answer your questions :)

If you check out our website, www.gethalo.com you can see the kill chart. (length of time it takes to kill specific micro-organisms.)

Dust mites, the flu virus, lice, fleas & bacteria are killed in under a second of contact with the Ultraviolet light, mold takes slightly longer, at 1.1 seconds, and yes, we did test this out in a labratory setting. We wanted the right frequency of Ultraviolet light to be able to kill these organisms during regular vacuuming.

Any kind of light, even sunlight can bleach out carpets. However, if used as directed, the Halo UVX is safe to use on your carpets.

Studies show that vacuums do not suck up dust mites. They have little suction cups on their feet, which enables them to cling to the fibers of the carpet. Check out this link - it's from consumer reports, and they know what they are talking about :) http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/08-30-2007/0004654612&EDATE=

With the Halo, you kill the dust mites, which enables you to suck them up as well.

Happy shopping!

Sincerely,
Kate E. Law

I have a Dyson and it is amazing. I have two questions about this vac....
1) How slow do you have to go to kill the DNA with this UV bulb? It would have to be really stong, and won't it hurt my floor?
2) It's only killing what's left behind...why not get a vac that will actually pick it up!

I got one of these things. I was impressed at first, but I really did not notice great performance. I actually had to pick the lint off of my rug to throw it out. How the heck did it not pick up lint???

Call me weird, but I think there may be such a thing as TOO clean! I think I heard that you need a few micro-organizisms hanging around so that your body can develop immunities etc to bigger "bugs". Too clean might leave us more vulnerable to bugs out there in the dirty, grimy real world.
