Casio Exilim EX-S770D With DivX Support

For the past few years I’ve relied exclusively on a digital SLR for my photography needs but was pleasantly surprised when I was recently asked to find a nice compact P&S for a friend. Not only has the obvious things like sensor size and image quality improved on P&S models but I was really surprised to see how nice the video capabilities were on many of them.

And since most videos captured today are destined for some sort of online distribution whether through basic email or fancy services like YouTube it’s nice to see manufacturers supporting popular and open video formats like DivX. The EX-S770D is actually the successor to Casio’s first DivX-friendly camera (the S-600D) but improves on the original with a 7.2 megapixel sensor and now allows video to be captured in a widescreen format. (640×480 for standard videos, 704×384 for widescreen versions.)

The Casio Exilim EX-S770D will be available in Europe where DivX is apparently especially popular sometime in November. (It’s not popular in North America too?)
